It's just software and a cable basically. The only thing Mazda really needed to add was....disabling touch while driving because yeah...they did that. Map a couple buttons. Very minor tweaks. If Mazda screw this up there's no hope for them.
Tech like auto braking or lane keep assist I might agree with you guys...but not on this one.

The concern for me is the removal of the entire unit from it's position.

It might not be a concern to others and that is fine :)

My dealer has the parts but Im really hesitant to tear apart my wifes new CX-5. Its only a couple months old!

My mother-in-laws year old 3, maybe [emoji16]

This will be so expensive. Local dealer in sydney quoted me $380 for the parts (out of stock). If you then add 3 hours worth of install time itll be up around the $700 AUD mark

Apparently supposed to take 1.5-2 hours

Ok ... the firmware is "in the wild" and I was able to score two sets of parts.
My '17 CX-5 is now equipped with CarPlay.

Since I hadn't previously disassembled the CX-5 interior, I accessed the previously-downloaded cable installation instructions and shop manual that are referenced somehwere in this forum and then worked slowly and carefully.
With the exception of two phillips-head screws and a pair of 10 mm bolts, the vehicle came apart like a Lego toy.

The biggest "pain" was wrapping the paired data cables with the provided foam tape before I began disassembly and then routing the cable set through a couple of tight spots.
A quick test before reassembly confirmed that all worked as advertised.
Unlike my slow parts removal, I "snapped" the trim back in place quickly.
Including the cable wrap, my total time investment was about 2 hours.
Because I've previously disassembled several NDs to install backup cameras, I wasn't worried by the popping sounds as the trim clips release.

The following photos are offered to compare U.S. market data cable ends with those found in other countries. I'm also including the USB hub, though it should be the same everywhere.

Just for the heck of it; here's the screen showing the updated firmware version followed by the CarPlay home screen.

Note that the screen looks much more "washed out" in the photo than it does in reality.

Barring the predicted rain, I'll install the second set of parts in my ND Miata tomorrow.:):)

I did my cx-5 today. Cx-3 tomorrow. Easy enough with all the pdfs.

Hardest part was routing the cables after all the parts were out.

This is turning into a joke and making Mazda look bad, imo. So many people installing this now. Apparently the demand from 6 owners was much less then they expected.

Im having a hard time sourcing the parts. I ordered from real mazda parts online which is a dealer in New Mexico. They emailed today and said they had to cancel the order because Per Mazda these parts are a part of a recall. I guess since recalls are free, thats how they are in the system to get 2018 Mazda 6 owners this upgrade for free. I think its going to be time yet until its readily available for others.

I ordered from a different dealer and got the same thing. An e-mail today saying the order was cancelled as they couldn't get the parts. I'm still searching for a local source, but I also put in a request at Japanparts to see if they can get them.

The vast majority who do want to get AA/ACP will still get it done via Mazda. They will still make money.

I dont think so. This is DiY demand. 6 owners are going to make appointments and that requires availability by both dealer a d and customer. If Mazda reads forums, they will be encouraged by demand IMO.

We also have no idea if 6 owners have been contacted yet as the parts have only been at dealers for a few days.

So the OP on Mazda3revolutiion has some posts detailing the parts are for *customer sat program* and letters to 6 owners go out telling them they get free *repair*. These parts are currently earmarked only for that.

Any dealers selling them didnt read the memo they should have received.
