Mazda Australia announces 5 year warranty

Fair enough, but around here RAV4's are openly known as chick cars. If you really want to get way more ridiculed by your buddies, buy a RAV4. :p

CX-5's have a very large range of people driving them and a pretty equal male/female ratio, from my observations. I've had both male and female friends/coworkers/etc. all like my car :)

Sample size of 1 person's commute to and from work in Denver and I see lot's of CX-5's every day now.

Bro, I drive a 4 cylinder mini-SUV without a turbo. Do you think I have any ego left what-so-ever regarding my vehicular situation? ROFL!

At least with the RAV4 I can nerd out about 40-41% thermal efficiency and they will get jelly about how rarely I stop for gas. Oh, and 2 more gears trumps the rediculous "sport mode", should I forgo the hybrid.

All recent Australian Mazda buyers should contact Mazda on 1800 034 411 to claim their extension. These changes are often applied retrospectively up to a period of time. Poor form on Mazda to have not documented the change in policy this way.

Okay.................. back on topic........

Have sent Mazda Australia a message asking if they can apply this warranty to me since I bought mine in May.

If they say no then not fussed but just want to try anyway.

Got an official reply from Mazda Australia:

"Thank you for your message and enquiry. The five-year unlimited kilometre warranty will only be applied to all Mazda vehicles purchased from a Mazda Dealer, from Wednesday 1 August, 2018 onwards. This includes any customers who take delivery or ownership of their vehicles from Wednesday 1 August, 2018"

Oh well. Didn't really expect it would retrospectively applied.

I think I'll be fine with my CX-5 :D

Haha..yeah jury is out on this 'sport' hybrid- stylistically though I think the new RAV is a yuge improvement.

Yeah, but the Monte Carlo is a muscle car...wait...that was the older one. The one from 2002? ROFL! Well, we now have the Impala, and...wait...

Things change with time. The RAV4 just got an awesome AWD system, they styled it after the 4Runner and TACO, and the hybrid has a sport tuned suspension and is the fastest model in the line-up yet goes over 600mi per tank. Even if you want to call it a "chic car", that's like calling the new Ecoboost 4 cylinder mustang a chic car. Okay, fair enough. It's still faster than the 2010 V8 GT model, and handles WAY better...

Old RAV4 (chic car):

Current 4Runner (not what I know anyone to call a "Chic car"):

NEW Rav4:

So yeah, I kindof view it as a mini-4Runner, and not a pumped up Mazda 3 (Corolla equiv) like the CX5 is.
Fair enough points Uno. I'll give you that.

Yeah, that sucks. It's like being a 2010 mustang gt owner, lol

I think Mazda should offer discounts on their extended warranties (to 5 years) for people who purchased vehicles from the same build year as people who bought from 1 August.

That would be good but ain't going to happen.

I got the same response by email. So I called them and asked for it to be escalated and requested it be changed to 5 years out of good will. Still waiting on a response.

Why wouldn't they? Are they scared the car will fall apart and it will cost them more than the money they would make if you bought a Mazda again instead of a different make, when you do trade the CX5 in, as well as the routine service? That's pretty disconcerting...

Honestly as much as I love my Gen 1 Mazda, the company itself feels a bit brain dead when it comes to those sort of decisions. Reading the Soul Red paint thread, AA/CP, no straight talk about the diesel in US, and this, seems like a no brainer PR win to just own up to the bad paint, get the AA/CP out the door to those who care, and for you Aussies just go ahead and give you the warranties. Good will moves like that are part of what influences repeat buyers and they can probably seriously help their brand in that respect by not being so brain dead.

Obviously don't personally care about any of this stuff with regard to my own CX-5, but just my observations.

Totally agree.

Won't happen. If they do it to you, they will do it to everyone and they don't want that.

Well see. Of course you may not find out from me if they do extend my warranty, as they may ask me to sign a non disclosure agreement. 😉 (Because this often happens in the industry).

Good luck with that but think it's a bit of wishful thinking there to be honest. It's pretty clear the terms which is any new vehicle bought, take delivery or ownership from August 01 2018 onwards.

They are not going to go retrospective for any owner unless they have some sort of relationship with Mazda Australia
