New map update for 16 CX5

Hey guys, just noticed there is a new map update as of December 3rd for those of us with the 2016 CX5s. I will be downloading this asap but figured I'd spread the news so you all can get downloading! I'm pretty happy because previously the latest update was Q2 2014 and lacked some new road configurations around my area.

Just to be safe, I want to backup my card before I attempt the update. What size and kind of sd-card do I need to get?

You use the sd card that came with the car(assuming yours came with navigation). Just pop it out, put into your sd card reader in your computer and follow the directions. It will prompt you when going through the steps about making a backup. Plus there is also a section in the software to manually create a backup. I will be updating my maps today. Just getting off work and need to sleep a little first though.

So the backup files stay on your computer and not on a separate card?

No pretty sure they stay on the computer. I have 2 backups already, and if they stayed on the card, that 7gb would be filled already. Which its not.

Whilst updating the Nav/Maps (EU version) I could see (if you open the "details" map) that at least 4 software updates were downloaded together with the Nav Maps.

These SW updates have however only to do with the navigation system?

EU has different numbering sequence, but yes, that's the latest EU version, early/mid Sept 2015

This update really is good (at least for me). Its now finding ALL the road updates correctly, the routing's changed to be better. Overall a darn good update.

I am confused now. Updated my SD card yesterday (including 4 software updates).
Upon loading the card MZD says : "Updating", then "loading", end the system starts up.

However, when I display the version info, the system answers : 51.00.xxx ?

Has the system to be updated separately with regards to software?

yes, 2 separate pieces
sd card for maps - using mazda toolbox for updating, backing up, restoring
infotainment software (version) - 56.00.230 is current EU
previous versions = 51.00.351, EU_56.00.210A

may not need 'latest' depends if your system is working OK
a call to dealer/service might clear it up for you - some updates only address specific problems
