Hello All!

I have a 2016 Meteor Gray GT; I wanted to see if anyone knew of a place to buy Matte Black emblems and the chrome trim piece in the front bumper/grill area? I think the chrome sticks out too much and wanted to tone it down a bit.

Thanks :)

eBay, aliexpress, spray paint, plasti-dip. If all else fails, try this crazy new thing with a funny name, it's called Google. Sounds funny to say doesn't it, I guess you can just enter in literally anything and this Google will search the Internet for you to help you find what your looking for. I've used it before, it's pretty neat actually! Good luck

Sounds good, dick!

Anyone have a useful answer? I'm not looking to plasti-dip and am not familiar with any Mazda sites yet. Any (usefully) assistance would be great.

An already painted chrome piece is unlikely to be found on ebay; however you can order it painted black from some JDM websites (www.japanparts.com) for a ridiculous $200+. If you are going to remove and install, you may as well just remove it and dip or paint it. It might be on ali express as well. The already painted emblems are way expensive for what they are, it's better to just to do it yourself or have someone local do it.

Thanks for the information. I will check out japanparts.com and ali express, never heard of either of them. I was hoping to have it already painted black as I didn't want to go through the hassle of painting. While $200 is a lot (and more than I wish to spend) I am coming from a 2011 BMW 335 where most parts were insanely expensive so it isn't too much of a sticker shock.

Another question; rather than posting a new thread - what is the best interior cleaner for the dash/plastic? Normally I use Einszett Cockpit Cleaner which works great; however do to the rubber texture of the dash I am a bit concerned of using it. What does everyone else use? 303 Aerospace?

Alright, you want a better answer, or more specifically you want someone to do the leg work for you. So here is goes. There are JDM badges that are already black but they are expensive and need to be imported via someone like Japanparts.com. If you have more money then time, that is going to be your best option. You will still need to take the time to remove the old badges and replace with the new ones. Use a hair dryer or heat gun on the low setting to soften the adhesive tape and then use fishing line or strong dental floss to work behind the emblem to remove it. I would not take any sort of prying tool and try to remove. The heat will soften the paint and you will likely mar the finish.

There are several options available on ebay that are already black but they are in the "Evil M" style. If you like those go for it, it's a pretty popular thing with mazdas. Your other option, and much cheaper option is to buy new emblems and paint them your self. That way they are ready to go when you remove the old chrome ones. Seeing as they are chrome finished on the plastic I would recommend you sand them down and be sure to use an adhesion promoter before laying down any color. You could also use plasti-dip if you like but it might peel over time.

The key to any painting job is prep. 98% of the effort needed to have successful paint project is prep work, sand, sand, sand again, adhesion promoter, primer, color coat, clear coat if you so chose. The 2k aerosols, available from eastwood.com, are excellent products although spendy. They are a 2 part paint product, the same as what would be sprayed from a professional gun but in a convenient easy to use spray can. The can needs to be activated (the two parts mixed) and then they have a shelf life of about 48 hours. It is essential that you wear a respirator while spraying those products, they have some nasty chemicals in them. But they are the most durable outside of a professional paint shop.

Since they are just emblems and won't see a lot of wear and tear I would just use something like duplicolor paints found at almost any auto store. Here are some links to emblems on ebay:

Fantastic - thank you for the insightful reply. I am not a huge fan of the "M" style emblem so I won't be going that route.

I will take a look on a few of those sites to check out the "JDM" ones; more than likely I will pick up replacement stock items and them professionally painted as I wouldn't want them to chip or look like crap after a few weeks. If I feel adventurous I may try to paint them myself first and if they don't turn out them hand them over to a professional.

I also greatly appreciate the tips on removing the badges as messing up the paint will certainly piss my wife off :)
