I went to check for updates on my navigation today and placed my SD in my laptop. Once I opened the Mazda Toolbox it recommended I back up before updating. I accepted this recommendation and the backup started. Unfortunately it stopped in 2 seconds with an error regarding autorun.inf. Any one get this error or know how to fix it?

Thanks!! I have had the car for 2 weeks btw.

I have backed up the navigation on my 2016 twice and have not seen that error. I would do what I always do when the computer does something wacky-- reboot it and try again.

With the car being new, why not ask the dealer to figure it out?

toolbox -> support has a few helpful hints, FAQ
could also open a support ticket with them, they might know more than the dealer

I tried rebooting, no luck. FAQ has no info on backup errors. I researched online and discovered my anti-virus software has a usb vaccination feature which renders / installs an autorun.inf that is unmodifiable. This is what is causing the backup error. I used a tool to render it writeable/readable etc and the autorun.inf kept popping back up. The only solution was to go into safe mode, delete the modified autorun.inf file and run back up in safe mode. Sucks, but at least I have one backup file to work with. Thanks for the advise! I didn't contact the dealer as they are too far for me to stop by and let them poke around. Cheers!

i'd look for another AV then :)
any overprotective software that adds complexity/barriers to routine pc/laptop functions (like using external devices) isn't worth the effort IMO

panda?
should be able to remove the usb/autorun 'vaccination' through the user interface according tho their literature

Tell me about it! Finding a good AV that works but isn't too fussy or thinks my work software are viruses has been tough. This is actually the first time the vaccinate feature has caused me problems so I never needed to disable it. I will be more wary in the future! :)
