Did some digging while I was at the dealership today.

2016 LED tails are exact dimensionally, right down to the little notch at the bottom by the crease of the batch.

The front LED fogs are set in a housing that is exact size also.

I cannot confirm if the harness plugs are the same on the back, but I'm willing to bet that they are. nothing some creative wiring can't fix, either. The downside?

OEM 2016 LED tails from dealership will set you back about 1,300 bucks. LOL

the fogs are so new, parts guy couldn't get a quote from the system.

On my 2014, someone stole the reverse light that's on the hatch itself, those are cheap $80 or less. The rest of the rear lights is the expensive part.

are there any aftermarkets that look similar? (wishful thinking)

Good information, the front fogs might be an interesting option...

Confirm it ONLY when it is mounted into place, not just exterior lens dimensions...

Not that I'm saying it won't fit, but only speaking from previous experience. Mazda has a habit of changing housing mount and bowl dimensions, which means the sheet metal behind the light isn't exactly the same... In some models, owners had to shave the sheet metal to swap in mid-life revision lights.

Really hard to say if the LED fog will fit or not, though I would assume it does, just because the standard GT without the tech package comes with standard halogen fog light, like the Touring model. And as for the standard halogen fog light, it looks the same as the previous generation, except who knows if they changed the mounting brackets or not..

I couldn't take photos, but I saw the exploded view on the parts counter computer. it looks identical behind the housings as far as I can tell.

I talked to the Mazda service department for LED headlights and they confirmed that entire electrical is different and you would need to do alterations on the vehicle so it is not a simple "plug and play".

In addition, that would void the warranty (if you still have it)

I still think this would be worth doing.. will wait for someone else to take the plunge and do a how-to.. :)

Interested in tracking this thread, the new LED fog lights might be an option to fit.
