Bluetooth...royal pos?

Did you do the latest iOS 7 update (came out in the last week or so)? On my iPhone 5, the Pandora connection now doesn't need me to go to the phone to re-establish a connection. Don't have a problem with it connecting by bluetooth 100% of the time but still suffer the "downloading contacts" issue. I do use other apps by bluetooth to stream music. LouderLogic is my go to app since it allows both full eq settings, proper shuffling, and if you have a co-pilot in the car, you can manage an active playlist easier (set next song found anywhere in the playlist and build as you play.)

I'm on IOS 7.1, I contacted Mazda and they recommend a hard reset on the iphone for connection issues. I'll see if that fixes some of the issues.

Yes, the Bluetooth and Entertainment interface sucks in our Mazda CX-5.
HTC One and Note 3 both reports wrong remaining battery life.
Connecting through Bluetooth takes a long time every single day because of downloading contacts. When everything is all done and music is playing fine, if I select next track, there's a couple seconds delay.
Some of the contacts aren't synced. I found out that this happens if there's extra information or picture or assigned to a group. No support for Korean characters.

I wish there was a magical software update that can fix all these, but I'm not holding my breath.

Have mine just over a week. BT issues suck ass. Iphone 5 on iOS 7.1. Having the same "Downloading Contacts" then launching Pandora super lag. Really takes away from an otherwise great driving experience. Mazda fail.

Ok. So now my Bluetooth connects and drops every 30 secs while I'm on a call. WTF? I had to listen to a con call via my phone speaker cos it was so bad. FAIL FAIL FAIL.

Fo shizzle dizzle. I rreally only use bt for iheartradio; quit using pandora b/c of the ads and low skip limit.

I too find my bluetooth a pita. It works well for my phone but thats it. Pandora on the other hand is worthless in this car. It throws an error up on the touch screen before the song even starts playing. I ill say the phone works great and is clearer then my old car with bluetooth. I have reset my phone back to the factory, and even had mazda reload the firmware on the radio and still no dice. Mazda states my samsung galaxy s3 on sprint is fully supported on both pandora and phone. Im starting to think that is a lie for the pandora portion of it.

So, I would have been in full agreement with Stealth's assessment, until two days ago (July 3rd), when Pandora abruptly and mysteriously began working as advertised in my 2015 CX-5 GT. I was in the habit of trying it every so often because I was so annoyed that it did not work, and lo and behold, a miracle. I have an iPhone 5s from AT&T, with iOS 7.1.1, and I've had my CX-5 for about a month. There is an iOS update pending on my phone for 7.1.2, but I'm nervous about updating and losing my newly found Pandora capability.

Wish I could offer some reasonable explanation of "Why", but I can't, so this is just FYI for whomever cares.

Did pandora update on your phone?

Fixed my Bluetooth issue for the most part. I had to downgrade the OS on my phone down to 4.3.0 from 4.4.4. The only this that doesn't work is song information and I have to start Pandora on my phone

I can confirm that downgrading my android phone from Android KitKat 4.4 down to Jelly Bean 4.3. Pandora now works without issue as designed and that includes streams song into the head unit itself. You have to have both the phone and media connected via Bluetooth. If you only have media connected Pandora will work but song information will no stream and phone is crystal clear.

Mine is an iPhone 5. It downloads contacts every time I re-establish BT link before starting the audio. I've watched it do it multiple times looking to see if there was something in the menu system to turn that off. Very irritating. Any other iPhone users with this issue? Or, I guess, more importantly, any other BT users who don't have this issue like nXt?

The solution for you would be a setting on the iphone itself.
Go to settings/bluetooth/Mazda
Hit the info button next to Mazda. Either turn off sync contacts or select phone favorites/phone recents instead of all contacts.
This will greatly reduce your wait time when connecting.

I have the iPhone 5s and are having these same issues as have about 1200+ contacts and it syncs each time.
My solution:
I am going to delete the paring and opt not to download the phone book
Get a mount for the iPhone on the drivers window side.
Use Siri and all the far superior functions of the iPhone over the mazda head unit.

Edit: After first pairing Bluetooth, on the iPhone Bluetooth settings, go to the little (i) next Mazda. Turn off all contacts and recent and just leave favorites on. Then just have your faves synced to the head unit. I only have 20 so it syncs up in a few seconds now :)
There was also a show notification button. Not sure if that will help with the text message reading thing but will turn it on and try tomorrow.

Just to add a counter point, I run Android 4.4.4 on my S4 and don't have any Pandora issues. Only exception being when switching data networks, it rarely starts right away when I'm leaving my house because of the wifi/lte hand-off and sometimes get an error message. If I remember to turn off wifi before I get in the car I never have an issue.

I'm a on galaxy s3 so that might be the key difference

I have a Nexus 4 which was good with 4.4.2 however 4.4.3 and .4 forget or are forgotten by the Mazda NB1 unit. I won't downgrade as there are many security and bug fixes in 4.4.4 that outweigh BT use.

My issue is with the continual nag to pair with Bluetooth once I get into the car. I may be sitting in a parking lot or even my driveway trying to text with the Mrs, then have the car constantly nag for pairing every few seconds, with subsequent cancellations each.

Turn off syncing of contacts. Bluetooth is done in about 10 seconds. I keep my iPhone on a sticky arm thing in the right and use it to call and navigate rather than the built in screen. Works for me

Definitely trying the "sync favorites" only tactic. I too experience a bit of time before the phone will connect. But one minute is relative when the USB takes 5. :P But I digress...I can't get the music to shuffle using my Iphone 6 on bluetooth. I've tried turning it on the playlist I want and hitting "shuffle all" before I turn the car on but while it plays the playlist the shuffle seems lost. So frustrating. Has anyone found a fix for this?
