in hopes of being able to get a view of the crank shaft and bottom end of the engine. I have the oil pan, and pump off, but there is what looks like an oil catch tray under the crank, blocking my view. I removed the bolts for it but it wont come loose, anybody done this before or have some advice? Ill post a picture tomorrow.

I removed my oil pan also in my 1.6L and I know the catch tray you are refering but find it odd that I wont come off did you check if you missed a bolt?

The windage tray (as it is called) has two bolts that require* the transmission to be removed to get at. They are two small 10mm bolts that attach to the underside of the housing for the rear oil seal. Once you have the transmission off, you must rotate the flywheel just so to get access to them (or you can remove the clutch/flywheel)

*I say "require" because some members have drilled two small holes in the bottom of the transmission case to be able to access these bolts. Search around for "windage tray" and you'll find more details.

Sorry, I forgot it's also called a Main Bearing Support Plate or MBSP. You might have better luck searching with one of those terms to find the locations of those bolts and how to deal with them.
