The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Devon, thanks for the pics and video! I'm just glad there was no one coming in the opposite direction when he slid into the guardrail. That definitely would NOT have been pretty. : /

It's never fun finding your car's limit on a public road!

On another note...I've come upon a strange phenomenon I'd like to call the Harbor Freight effect. Every time I go to Harbor Freight for 1 or 2 items, I always end up leaving with 10 times more items! I stopped by there at lunch to get a magnetic screw holder and a 100pack of gloves ($9 total)....I ended up spending $110 LOL

Excellent comment, Evan!

your Harbor Freight effect = my Costco effect!! LOL over $100 every time, but we only go every 4-6 weeks ...

I have to agree with this comment a lot. When I first got my 6 back in 2005 I thought I was bad ass and an Indy car driver and did a bunch of dumb things. First time I went around a curve 2 blocks from my house slid into the curb and I bent my rim and had to replace my right front tie rod. Another time I was running late for church on a Sunday come flying around a corner slid sideways through the intersection into oncoming traffic (thank God there was only one car and they stopped for me to continue my slide) which was unintentional*, and the one that put the nail in the coffin and slowed me down a lot, is I was running late for work and took an S curve at 80 mph and tried to hold my lane and to say the least I lost it, spun my car 2 times and struck a guardrail twice. Did 1500 dollars damage to my car and had to pay 600 to the state because they said the guardrail was damaged. So I take it slow. An no I am not bragging I just want the few younger guys on here to know this so they can make sure they know there cars limits before they do stupid stuff like this or even worse.

Ok I will leave the soap box now.

Wise words, Taters! Not mentioning any names, but I believe we have a 17 yr old among us and I would STRONGLY AGREE with the above comments (that I didn't quote) for anyone under the age of 20 to at LEAST do a few autox events to learn the limits of your car. They are cheap ($30-40) per event and you can push your car and not have to worry about hitting anything but a bunch of plastic cones ... We did that for a few years before moving up to track events and I definitely know my limits and how to control ... slow in, fast out ... and brake in a straight line. You learn from your mistakes in a SAFE environment. Once at Beaverun, I wasn't paying attention (my bad) flying down the front straight and all of a sudden I noticed the left hander coming up ... the instructor was impressed with my keeping the car under control ... not bragging, just saying ...

Definitely look into AutoX. Keep an eye on the thread and tag along if others are going ... it'll definitely help you with your driving skills!!!!!

ok, Mama Lauri is done tawking (for now) ; ) I just don't want to see anyone (or anyone's car) get hurt.

No you can stay on the soap box. I would rather hear it from you guys rather than my parents every damn day. But as long as I live there I can't say much.

But my coilovers are finally one along with the JBR RSB and I love it all. Can't believe I waited this long to get them on, okay picture time:

I'll get more once its cleaned up, but I'm a happy Mazda owner. I was up till 1:40 finishing everything up but it is well worth it.
Also what kind of discounts can Marlon get on Nike's? Thats all I wear so if I could quit spending 100+ on shoes that would be great. I only wear the lunar series though

I'm hoping they need time to settle so they drop a little more but I also want to see what it loooks like with my wheels rather than the temp stockers. there is still a 2 finger gap all the way around

haha yea I need to call white's to see when I can get in there. car is driving straight at the moment. But I will get one once I get my wheels and tires back

I have plenty of fun on public roads. I rarely drive more than 5-7 over the speed limit (to avoid a ticket). What I do is try to double the recomended speeds for turns. Being safe about it at all times. You never know when some jackwagon is coming the other way in your lane around a turn. You gotta look ahead as far as you can as often as you can. I too need to do an autocross, I will be slow as balls and suck at it in general but it looks fun. I wish I lived closer to more autocross events.

if you guys want more seat time/wheel time, come out to the Karting event i set up in September... youll get about an hours worth of seat time in all in the kart.

So I think I got my clank fixed on my rear brakes. I'm really thinking it was a loose caliper because I had no trouble getting the bottom slide bolt out of the caliper but had a hell of a time getting it back in place and it made the same noise when I was trying to get it back into place. Five days and no clanking. But that really worries me if the caliper was really loose....

guess ill be tearing into mine this weekend to see if i can get my rear clanking to stop... pretty sure mine is something with my rear drivers side brake as well

Mine does this as well, ill have to check it out this weekend !

ive narrowed mine down to something with the rear brakes cause when i hit a bump you hear the clunk but when you hit a bump with the brakes on, there is no clunking

its def something i want to get to and try to get it taken care of this weekend

Maybe you'll have better luck with those stupid pistons than I did. (lol2)

thanks haha

Right on, its a pretty nasty sounding clunk too at times. But like you said, when braking; it doesnt happen.

Devon, I didn't notice this before, but red rover let off the brake waaay too soon and was trying to keep up with the car in front of him. Stupid. This is something you learn from 1-2 track days.
Although that turn is vicious. haha. I remember everyone's tires squealing through that one.

Anyone have any suggestions for something to make the ms3 driver seat more tolerable for a guy with old man back problems? Ive messed with the lumbar and how i sit in the seat, but still cant find the right combo that doesnt leave me in discomfort after a long drive.
