Price check... 2012 CX-9

Curious which one is more expensive ....

When I was pricing the 2012 Pilot EX-L 4WD with an MSRP of 37,150 the dealer wanted 32, 400 but I wanted it for about 31,400. This was in October.
The 2012 CX-9 Grand Touring AWD with bose and lift gate had an MSRP of 38,435 and I paid 32,490 (now the incentives have increased in November) on October 20. The Pilot EX-L doesn't have Xenons, Blind Spot, Memory Seats, etc.

IMO, if you are comparing the GT to the Pilot, you need to compare it to the Touring, not the EX-L. EX-L is cheaper because it lacks some of the features that you would get in the GT and the Touring.

Going out this AM to trade my original owner 2007 CX-9 Touring (92k miles) for a close out 2012 Grand Touring. They are offering about 7k off MSRP, but just a few left around town. Got to have sand interior, and color choices are Dolphin Gray, Copper Mica, Stormy Blue, Black, and White. I think it will either be the gray or red.

I just didn't care for the new look of the 2013 and since I keep the car 5+ years, the new year model was not worth passing up the 7k discount.

I looked at everything on the market including the new Nissan Pathfinder and just didn't see anything I liked better than my CX-9.

Just fyi, not sure what color yours is now, but mine is gray mica.... I love the color but it is HORRIBLE with showing dirt. Carwash lasts 2 days before you can see dust buildup on the paint. Thought you should know.

I bought a 2012 Grand Touring AWD - Copper Mica with Sand Leather Interior with Moonroof and Bose package. MSR was $38,575, paid $31,500 drive out price.

I listed my 2007 Touring on eBay motors and Craig's list last night for $13,950 and already had two calls. Dealers were only offering $10-$11k trade-in.

Picking it up tonight

I don't think you can expect much better than that. Sounds like a great deal. Congrats.

I am in the process of buying a cx-9 and have one at a dealer that is a 2010 AWD Touring white/charcoal with Bose/power lift gate/ rear camera with 23k miles going for $24,700 before tax and registration. In addition, I am negotiating with another dealer for a new 2012 silver/black leather AWD touring with Bose/lift gate and backup camera( same specs as the used) for $28,903 also before tax. Any thought as to whether the newer more expensive one is the better option long term regarding value and resale?? Or just go with the used one which is in great shape? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Hoping to make a decision by Monday dec24th.

What is the MSRP of the new one? It seems like for 4,000 extra you get a two year newer model with full factory warranty. Seems like the new one is the better deal in this case, but curious how much they are pulling off of the new one - looks like new one is around 36,700 for an MSRP - you are right at 8,000 off which is darn good especially since yours does not have an MSRP of 40+.

MSRP of new is $36,932. definitely leaning towards new but will decide by Wednesday. Feel bad because I had the used car dealer buy the 2010 at auction for me. Given the price I am sure he will be able to sell it on his lot.

Sounds like you did very well, enjoy it and don't look back. The only comparable deal I've seen was from Bakersfield Mazda, in Bakersfield, CA. They sold a 13 GT AWD for $29,856

Price was reported at: http://www.voiceofthedriver.com/carrates/70453

You should share your price, bet it could help some CX-9 shoppers on the East Coast.

That number is bull. Even a stripped down loss leader GT will run thousands more. That site is not helpful.

Sounds like you got a great deal on a 2012, just like me. I bought my 2012 Grand Touring FWD the day after Thanksgiving. The sticker price was $37,385 and I paid $29,207 (with $500 Loyalty b/c I have a 2006 Mazda3)!

Great deal on the accessories also! One other accessory that I highly recommend is the Cargo Tray. It lists for $121.15 and is worth every cent. It's heavy-duty plastic and designed to still allow access to the under-floor storage compartment and to fold up/down with the 3rd row seats. The cargo net is also very handy for around $40. They're both very easy to install.

Just curious- what color are you getting?

I'll check on getting the cargo tray when we pick it up. It is black on black. Still haven't seen it yet !

Living in Columbus, I sent emails out to everyone in Ohio to get quotes. Steve at Montrose Mazda in Cleveland took $7000 off immediately about 3 weeks ago. Ricart in Columbus begrudgingly matced their price which is only $5 above the cost with the Mazda loaylty included.

Ricart then only offered $2750 for my trade. Sent a number of videos and pictures to Steve of our trade-in and was very honest about the condition and issues -
they offered $4250 for it.

Steve then emailed me earlier this week to wait until Sunday to drive up so I could get an additional $500 President's Day bonus off. That's when I added in the accessories and installation ($200) for a net additional cost of around $300. They matched the lowest prices of everything others had posted on this Forum.

Provided there are no issues with the trade when I get up there, we should be set. I think they have 5 more 2012s up there and they are dealing!

The best prices I've found on Mazda OEM parts and accessories is from MedCenter Mazda in Pelham (Birmingham), Alabama. They have dedicated website for their online parts sales and they are awesome to deal with. I placed an order for a new remote and a few other items for my 2006 Mazda3 yesterday afternoon at 3:15pm and it was shipped and I had a UPS tracking number less than two hours later! I've been doing business with them for five or six years and never had any issues. They also do FREE UPS Ground Shipping on all orders over $100, so that's a nice perk on top of the discounted pricing. Here's their website- MedCenter Parts

Even if you don't order from them, you can print off the items you want and have your dealer match their pricing! That's what I did when we bought our 2012 CX-9. I had to fight to get everything installed for free, labor was going to cost almost $300! They wouldn't budge on the labor cost at all, so I had to get 'firm' with them! We were hours into the deal, the splash guards were already installed and the roof rack was in progress. I told them either they installed everything for free or we were walking out the door. The sales manager came over and started b.s.-ing and I walked out the door....before I made it ten steps out the door, the sales manager came running to catch me and said, "Okay, you win". I'm the grandson of a car dealer and a legendary negotiator/haggler, so I can play their games better than they can! =)

I wanted the Rear Bumper Guard but they didn't have one in stock on the day I bought my CX-9. I ended up ordering it and installing it myself and it looks amazing, even on my Pearl White. I saw it on a Stormy Blue and on a Brilliant Black (like yours) on another dealer's lot and it really pops on the darker colors- some serious "bling" according to my 13-year old nephew! =)

The dealer really pissed me off over my trade-in and almost lost the sale over it. I had a 2007 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer in excellent condition but with 134k miles on it. I went to Carmax a few doors down from the Mazda dealership first and got a written offer to buy it for $7500. It was getting late by the time we went to Mazda and we got to the super-low purchase price within a few minutes. The used car manager said he would give $7500 for my Explorer but only if I would buy the CX-9 that night! I hadn't even mentioned the Carmax offer, but I told him if he could pay $7500 for my trade that night, he could do the same when/if I returned in the next few days. My salesman said he wasn't so sure about that. I told them if they wanted to sell a car, they certainly would!

That was the night before Tuesday night before Thanksgiving. When I returned the next afternoon, he would only do $7250 for the trade and would NOT budge. I asked for the General Manager, told him that he had offer $7500 the night before and Carmax has offered the same. If he wanted to sell me a car, he would give me $7500 for the trade. He nodded and wrote in $7500....and that Used Car Manager was beyond pissed off, I loved it! =)

In my head, I was doing backflips because I wasn't sure if I could even get $7k for it. But it wasn't a matter of principle, not the $250, that made me determined to get $7500 for it! It probably cost them quite a bit to pack it up and ship it back to HELL where it belongs...God I hated that damn Explorer!!! It had more problems over the five years I owned than all of my vehicles from the previous 20 years combined! But I'll stop talking about it now, otherwise I'll start shaking and need a few Valium...

If your deal falls thru for some reason, my dealership here in Georgia has seven 2012 CX-9s left and two of them are Grand Touring AWD, Black with Sand interior and Bose/Moonroof & NAV packages. One lists for $40,345 and they're selling it for $30,145! AWD models can be a tough sell here in Hotlanta, so it's odd to find two 2012s at the same dealer...but it also makes them motivated to get rid of them...it's a great time to be in the market for a new CX-9 if you're okay with a 2012!
