SMIC & HardPipes

yup, heat rises. Plus, even at highway speeds, they wouldn't get as much airflow as they would with a fmic. Yes, they have hood scoops, but they are still fighting against rising heat in the bay. Nothing beats direct flow from the front. The only way to get better results with a TMIC or SMIC is chemical cooling like water/methanol injection

This, there a quite a few that do heat shields or switch to a front mount also.

Have you have noticed that most people with an sti do and fmic swap?

If you think it looks ricey then paint it black and leave the plastic mesh and no one will see it

Cleverfrog. Imagine a magical turbo or one that was electric that spooled immediately. It would still take twice as much time to fill twice the volume. So that's why I am saying ignore spooling. While the spool time will obviously have a major affect on the absolute time, the affect will be proportional to the volume of intake air. It will always take 2x the time.

I am not saying it is significant for all people, clearly it is not, but I figured it would be to me and it was a factor in my choosing to go with the SMIC.

You obviously don't under stand how it works. I'm at 16 psi around 3500 rpms and your saying that buy me runing an fmic I won't see 16 psi untill 7000 rpms? No. People runing my setup with an fmic hit 16 psi between 3750-4000.

....................................I have no responses anymore. Unsub. my whatever cents have been input. Do what you want. We are just providing input.

Exactly Cleverfrog. The reason for this thread was for me to gather other members opinions/experience with SMIC and FMIC's to help me make a more education decision. Before I go out and spend $1k, I wanna know as much as possible before doing so!

Oh, and quick question. Anyone have any information on air-to-water intercoolers? I haven't seen any done on these cars, but my buddies GLI uses this system I'm pretty sure.

ask anyone on this forum with a FMIC if they noticed any increase in lag and see what they say.

bwlknsn91, there are a couple of people on here with an air to water setup. I can't remember their names right now.

Do you know of the advantages that come with it? I'm assuming cooler air temperature?

not really, I never really looked into that setup that much. Go back to the post that you just quoted. I just edited it with a link to someone who did it.

Thanks guys! And yeah, it seems a little more complicated than doing a little cutting and switching out a couple pipes! Lol. I really wish I had $1k sitting around so I could get this show on the road! Being a broke college student <<<

corksport is a really good kit. Im just saying, if you didn't want to spend that much, you could build a kit yourself. Just get a good quality core and fab up some pipes or order some pipes from an online vendor

Even the cheap eBay cores do better than a side mount lol. But my brother runs an eBay core on his Honda and it does pretty good.

If you do a water to air setup you'll be paying a lot more and doing more than cutting pipes

Ah, I see what you're saying. Yeah, I was thinking about maybe buying either a Garrett or Mishimoto core with eBay piping, but reliability of eBay brands seems sketchy to me.

Piping is just piping just make sure the couplers and clamps that connect the pipes are good
