The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

So here are my options for the MSP for SCCA next year (at least till the new rulebook comes out)
GS - Hell no, not going back to stock good call
STX - I guess technically I wasn't suppose to be in it because of my ETC SMI which probably had no difference than stock because there was no other mods to pressure, turbo size, or tune. So just to stay lagit... Nope no one cares except that one douche
DSP - ?
SMF - So I can kick AJ's butt :) bring it old guy
FP - ? you dont wanna be prepared
XP - for hardcore race cars not dd MSP (I think)? this statement is correct
EM - ^=? i believe emod is pretty competitive
I'm guessing I'll be staying within the DSP or SMF classes.

either stay stx or come compete with me in smf. you know itd be a lot more fun that way. and smf allows you to run stickies and a tune, if you wanna cough up a little cash and get the ssafc youve wanted.

when i have a much higher paying job, a garage (that's a big one)/ house, and time to tinker with a car, then i will; if i do so, it will have one stock daily driver, and one car to mod, play with, race, and whatnot...

that was my plan...

Well, things might be looking up for next year, I have yet another interview set for Wednesday. With Chase this time in their Annuity Dept.

SMF, is your best best..... Mini's and Civics of course. XP you'll get killed by all of the Evo's and the like.....
That is what I figured. Mainly imports "slighty" modified that aren't all out race.

I believe I can run stickies in DSP too. Why not just run in SM instead of the supplemental class SMF? Is there really any limits in SMF. It seems pretty open and it doesn't say anything about FI vehicles and relates back to other classes. Does that mean any goes for internals or boost pressure as long as it is a OE block of that model past or present?

im confused about your question. and sm is a lot more competitive than smf, so smf seems apropriate. if smf is available why not use it?

If you have modified STI's, Evo's with AWD they have a big advantage over FWD cars, it was hard for FWD to be competitive with those types of cars, hence SMF.

^ IDK I guess we can run either SM or SMF. SMF just seperates us from the RWD and AWD. It really doesn't matter to me that much I guess. I'm competitive no matter who I race against. It just would be nice to have a class that isn't empty in our area like SMF usually is. I looked back at last years point and the most one person raced in that class was 3 times and the most at one race was 2 cars. I think I would like to play with the Fisher's blue EVO, the red IS LExus, and the Cobra that are consistantly racing and only running about 2 seconds faster with Rcomps when I was using dead Falkens. Look at the times at the last couple Fostoria events. At the events we competed I would have placed 3rd and 4th with what I ran in thoughs classes, add Rcomps, SSAFC, and MAYBE a FMIC w/ a little boost change, and a little more driver mod and we're talking track sleeper/BEAST! :)

well i just looked at nworscca rankings and we both finished second in our classes in championship points. lol so we should probably go to the banquet the 21st.

and man just run smf. looking at the point standings there are plenty of cars that run it. and think, if we have 2 more consistent people in the class. that would draw more people to it really, and we could have some fun competition.

unless Mazda comes up with a high mpg car... i'm done with them for a daily driver.

That kind of logic is very dumb to me. For the difference you'll spend paying for a new(er) car and new(er) car insurance, you'll not save anything in gas money. Hybrids don't do that well on gas. My mom's Prius gets about 38 average. My buddy pulls 38-39 on the highway in his 02 Civic, and modded 3's do the same apparently. I know you don't live far from work, so I'd guess you don't do much driving as a whole. I know I don't.

Let's say you get 28mpg (very conservative) in the Protege. It's paid off I'm sure, and I'd guess the insurance is cheap on an older "boring" car.
10k miles per year at 28mpg with gas at 3.35 per gallon puts you at 357 gallons used and ~1200$ in gas. 20k miles puts it at ~2400$.

10k miles per year at 40mpg at 3.35 per gallon is 250 gallons and 838$. You'd need to have less than 362$ per year between your car payment and difference in insurance.

And should you want to make the switch to a hybrid for the hipster tree-hugger go green eco world saver polar bear non-killer reasons, you're ignoring the fact that hybrids are worse for the environment because of the materials and resources used in making the batteries. That and the fact that current battery technology is ass and they don't last long at all. So you get to replace them every 80-100k or so. Woo, saving the world for sure.

Just my two pennies. ;)

Alright AJ I'll run SMF with you this year, but if there is no more turn out then it is off to race the big boys for me. I really want to see Jon Fishers face when a MSP takes down his blue beast. Ona side not he is a really nice guy though. Just the fact the little hp MSP against his amazing EVO and the other guys sweet Lexus. But for now... I guess you'll be my main competition. You just need to drop around 4 - 5 seconds to get to me. Good Hunting!

lol coilovers+supercharger+ tires when i find em will make up that time. you remember how awful awful awful those tires were........ i had no traction ever. they were probably worse than riding rim.

but you gonna go to the banquet?

Thinking about it. Have to RSVP before the 1/2/12. I probably should.

I really want coilovers too! I can only imagine...

Levi's rims (winter) - $250
Ivan's 2nd gen MS3 rims (dd) - $600
Tires for both $1,400
-----------------------
$2,250 well spent
Hopefully my school money comes in soon. I can't imagine running the tires I have now in 2inches of snow. I'll be going NO WHERE, seriously!
Then the optional coilovers/SSAFC/FMIC. I'm thinking rims and tires this year. Paint job and the last finishing mods next year. After that it is all about keeping it clean and saving for a skyactive Mazda for a graduation present :)

Wes is spot on! It will take 15-20 years for you to see the value of a hybrid car. If you are person that likes to have a new car every 5-6 years it does not make sense to buy one.
