Maxx Mazda's 2011 Build Thread

looking great man. just one question is the oil from the filter going to drain back into the oil pan? cuz if not that looks like it will be a b**** to change

Oil comes from the block, to the PRV, to the filter, then back to the block. With the filter being mounted up high like that it should all drain back to the engine when the engine is off. Oil changes will be easy.

If not you could always put a rag. lol

I cant wait to see this finished. Those are 1.8 wires and coils right? With the 1.8 VC?

Yes yes and yes. I'm going to see how far I can push those coils. Got the stock 2.0 coils up to 10ms before they'd overheat and misfire. These appear to be quite a bit beefier.

190$ for shipping? I'm guessing that's for a rush from Ottawa to out there while avoiding C.P. due to the looming strike?

BTW, the "stockness" of the build is amazing. Can't wait to see the final look of the engine bay when it's all done!

(insert facepalm emoticon here)

That makes a lot more sense!
Again, congrats on all the great work.
(continues to wait for the vid of when the engine first turns over :))

Well, my clutch showed up today. Overnight from Japan.

Seriously though, overnighted from California. HUGE props to the guys at ClutchMasters for getting this together and shipping it out so quickly!

Here it is, the FX400 6 puck sprung race clutch:

Heavy duty pressure plate, good for 470Lb ft. If this thing starts to slip on me, I've got bigger problems than a clutch.

Fidanza flywheel on, cleaned and torqued, adapter plate on, and clutch disc on and centered.

Throwout bearing installed and greased:

Here she is torqued down:

Transmission on, the engine is ready to go back into the car:

And, may I present, for the first time since August 8, 2008 (Just realized, 8/8/08. Huh...) The engine is back in the car!

As they say, it's all downhill from here!

I thought it was a corvette myself or a RX7 both have similar lines

If I had a C5 I definitely wouldn't be building a protege, just saying.
