My speedo just rolled over 60k (now i dont feel as bad about voiding my warranty long before), and mazda was very timely with sending me a reminder for my 60k service...wonder how they even knew i was already there? The email does not mention anything about tranny oil change, yet the service rep I just talked to says it IS indeed part of this service. Anyone have inputs on that? And while I'm at it, what oil does the MS3 use? Of course the dealer wouldn't tell me this big secret...

Other than changing my oil, cabin air filter and tranny oil, this is very much a ridiculous price even with the coupon discount ($450 vs. $650). Who in the world falls for this and religiously "donates" paychecks for so much inspecting - and not much wrenching?? (jerkit)

Please refer to your owner's manual or call for further details."

You would spend less on a speed jack and jack stands, wrenches, oil and filter, and a funnel to do all that stuff yourself

Total ripoff, I do everything myself that is not warranted under the mileage. Everything is "check", all that does on their end is try to upsell you something else

As for tranny stuff....I'm not sure. If its not in the owners manual you can check the fluid color/smell,texture yourself through the fill plug. Or even let a little out through the drain plug. Too bad there's no dip stick for the tranny

I do know, however, that spark plug replacement and coolant replacement is recommended at 60k for schedule 1 maintenence. A machine works best on the coolant flush but its not impossible to do it yourself if you just want to drain and fill

Tranny fluid every 30K-36K miles, 3 qts. Motorcraft Synthetic or Redline Synthetic manual tranny fluid.
Cabin filter is a pain but if you didn't have it changed at 36K it will be filthy, you can do it with some patience and the how to I think is on this forum and everything else shold be a snap.
Dealership barely if at all puts in 1.6 Hrs for 60K Full Circle for a lot of money. I wish I could get paid as well per hour.

Bought my speed with 61k and no service records. Put about 3k on it. But to be safe I'd say it's time for servicing.
I don't know what oil previous owner used.
If he used petroleum based is it ok to to switch to full synthetic?

Yeah i changed to one step colder plugs a while ago and the thing hasnt seen the stealership other than for the first 2 services when new and a couple trips to get stuff replaced under warranty. Not worried about the cabin filter for now...as long as it doesnt smell like crap and I can open my windows, I have plenty of other things to take care of haha.

Thanks for the info Russm, I'm sure my oil is beyond burned by now and my tranny hates me for it.

I wouldn't let that cabin filter go for too long. Sure, your car won't explode if you don't change it, but plenty of stuff gets into it, and that will choke your system

I'm not going to tell you its the easiest thing to do, especially if your tall, fat, or have gargantuine hands....but its certainly doable. And there's a youtube vid on it so that helps
