Questions about the cobb AP.

hey guys i have a few questions about the Cobb AP.

What are the modifications requirements for maps that the AP offers?

How many maps come pre-installed on the AP?

What are the expected gains from the AP?

Also my modifications are cold air intake, turbo inlet, test pipe and a cat back: Will the AP work with these modifications?

Thanks guys,

Have you checked cobbtuning.com? Basically all the info you're looking for is there. I would imagine any stage 1 map from cobb will be fine for you as long as you do lots of monitoring.

The AccessPORT will certainly help you increase the performance of your car and we probably have a map that will work with your car already! It all depends on your intake, however. You can see our complete listing of maps here: http://cobbtuning.com/info/?id=5765. Most of the basic staged maps come pre-loaded on the AccessPORT but you can download all the maps we have for the MS3 from the website. The AccessPORT can carry about a dozen calibrations at one time.

This graph shows you roughly a stage1 vs a stage2 car on our dyno in Plano, keep in mind these are ProTuned cars and not OTS-tuned cars. Feel free to search on our dyno database for more dyno plots and results.

You can read all about the AccessPORT for the MAZDASPEED3 Here: http://www.cobbtuning.com/products/?id=4100

Please let us know if you have any other needs or questions!

I saw that both your stage 1 and 2 use the stock intake. Do you have any plans to do maps with aftermarket intakes?

hey dude,

Just pick the ap up and get a pro tune. You will be amazed how good the car runs. Even if you don't get a pro tune the car will run like a champ.

We are still planning to expand the map library, however, we have switched gears for the meantime as we are doing some upgrades to the background software etc. We are aware that the community is looking for more map options, however, I am not sure when we will have new maps available.

No sense it waiting for the release of an OTS to match your parts list. it's great that COBB offers all these OTS maps...but ultimately you should just get a pro-tune. OTS maps are great for interim, but more of a band-aid than a solution. Buy the AP. Get a pro-tune.

Edit: When I say "band-aid" I'm referring to your power options. AP is great out of the box for monitoring/logging et cetera. But if all you want is to monitor, buy a dashawk.

I wouldn't refer to the maps as a band-aid even when considering the power gains! The AccessPORT even with the OTS maps, is going to give you much more functionality than just a dashawk. That said, we don't have an OTS map for every intake or modification combo, but that is why we offer AccessTUNER Race and ProTuner software, so that you can get a custom tune if you wish. The big X factor on all of these maps are the intakes. We realize that there are many options on the market and you will choose the intake that best suits your needs, however, you will need a custom tune if you don't fall within one of those OTS calibrations. Please let us know if you have any other questions or needs.

I would lol. A properly tuned car, whether it is dyno, etune, ATR, whatever, is going to be better than just running an OTS.

We are interested in your viewpoint on this. Why would you consider an OTS a bandaid? Do you feel that they are just not that good? Is it just the limited performance? Keep in mind we do keep the OTS maps on the conservative side of things. We welcome your thoughts!

I consider them a bandaid because even if you have the exact parts for the specific map (which rarely is the case) you still aren't tuned for your specific car...which a pro-tune will be. the OTS is a great starting point in most cases, but the last level of refinement/advancement...well...tuning comes from a protune (or any other tuning solution mentioned above); which is why I consider it to be more of a bandaid. They are good for jumps between performance levels and steering you in the right direction, but not so much for getting dialed in.

I don't think they are bad; but there is just no way for you [Cobb]to factor in all the variables.

To go further, but a little more off topic: waiting for an OTS map to match your specific mod list is crazy (edit: I don't know anyone who actually does this). I can't imagine, just on the bolt-on hard parts side of things, all of the R&D (time/money) required for OTS maps for just a different intake, all other things being equal. while a great service to go along with our $600 AP, OTS maps just don't seem feasible for you or me. I remember you told someone to not hold their breath for a stage 1 TMIC map (I'm paraphrasing) because the time invested just wasn't worth the results, yet there are plenty of people buying up top mounts that have not, nor are they likely to, upgrade their DP/mid pipe. What are these people to do? bandaid it with a stage one or a stage two OTS for the interim and get it tuned later to take advantage of the modest gains from their intercooler upgrade.

Obviously this is just my opinion here (on an internet forum, no less) and at the end of the day you guys will have forgotten more than I'll ever know about cars...which is why I trust and purchase your parts lol.
