Failed Ignition coils

What would cause ignition coils to fail. I just replaced mine and within a week it would seem that they failed again, I get a misfire around 3100 rpm till 4000 rpm just before I hit full boost.

Then the car pulls till redline.

might not be the coils, what are your plugs gapped at? what are you using for engine managment?

I am using AEM FIC for management, I dunno how the plugs are gapped i am using ZFR6F NGK and did not gapped them. I am pretty sure its ignition related as when I swapped the coils for new ones the misfire went away for a few days then came back again.

9.5 psi or 0.7 bar. I have never been able to really get the car to drive right for over a year, its been problem after problem.

First it was the wiring on the AEM connectors then ignition.

have you contacted AEM about updating the F/IC? i know someone on here was having problems getting it to work on a protege and they sent it back to AEM for updating and it worked fine afterwards.

and what if you lower your boost a bit just to see if the problem is still there? Because que OEM coil packs are not that powerfull

I tried to lower the boost but to no avail. I do not think its the FIC as when i swapped coils it worked fine so I ordered new coils but it went bad after a short while.

then beside to much compression for the spark plug to create a spark I really don't know :S Why don't you upgrade to GM coils?

Sorry i dunno what are GM coils? I thought that there were no upgraded coils for the 1.6 ZM engine.

I don't know youre engine management so I can't tell you if you can do it but with my megasquirt I can run other coil plugs than the OEM. It's in my plan of changing for LS1 or LS2 Corvette engine... It's a more powerfull spark at high boost.

Did you ever run it a more than 9.5 psi? Cuz I'm planning to boost at 15-16psi next summer. I just wanna know if the engine and transmition will take it?

I do not dare to ran more than 9.5 psi, i am using 92 fuel and besides my car have never been running right since i went boost.

I dunno how many psi will the motor take.
