The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

yeah, no performance to be gained from that. I would save up for a catback, that will give you performance and a better sound, don't know how loud it would be without the resonator though. Sean told me he had to add one after his header install cuz it was a little too loud LOL I might have to do the same, who knows what the sound will be with my cheapo exhaust

Hmm...well I don't think I really want a full catback because I am content with the current exhaust note (and exhaust is expensive). I just want it to be a little louder so I can actually hear it. I guess if the resonator delete only costs $40, might as well do it. If is sucks, then maybe I'll have to spend the $$ on a catback.

The MSP does not have a resonator or a secondary cat, it does have a 3" race muffler and the custom 3" turbo back exhaust. I think Phen as a similar set up in his MSM. Evan #2 you can run the car without the cat or a resonator, turbos's are not as loud as NA exhausts (due to back pressure in the NA cars). You will gain HP w/o the cat.

in that case get a straight pipe, you will gain a little on both performance and sound, if you still want it louder after that then get rid of a resonator. Unless you want to take a chance and get the catback I got, 2.5" though. only cost me $180 LOL

it's going on on Sat, all i have to do is have the bung welded on the pipe and wrap it, then i'm good to go
Kewl. I am so jealous of you dudes with the cash for mods. I have to wait at least another 6 monts before I can do anything. I will be getting another pay raise when one of my girls graduates and my child support goes down.

I have a decent size resonator on mine with no cats (i'm allergic) and i think it's a little too loud for long trips. got back from the shop, everything is good, they "forgot to use loctite on the bolts" so the added that & retourqred every bolt they worked on and redid the alignment. Everything seems to be back to normal. Ironically they said my brakes were fine when they wanted to replace all the pads and the rear rotors last time...
still need to winterize my car though.

I'm trying to do it while i can, before kids and all that fun

I don't really know much about exhaust since I've never done an aftermarket exhaust. What would be deleted with a straightpipe? Would it be just the muffler, or does it mean deleting the cats too?

Also, how much to do this.

Thanks!!

i've been working a lot of OT, otherwise i wouldn't be able to

some sites sell the straight pipe for like 100, made for the car. you can also have a muffler shop fab one, very close to deleting the resonator. it basically gets rid of the second cat

Sweet! But will it blend??? haha

ummmm that would depend it you have it fabbed or get one that's designed for it. might not pass visual inspection if they know what they're looking at but will pass other tests. sometimes they just check for codes, sometimes they do a dyno run...

You turbo guys are so lucky your cars don't need resonators... I should've added a resonator instead of a cat after I put the Corksport header-back exhaust on. It was unbearably raspy.

I got a used Unorthodox Racing underdrive pulley in at work today. And my dad, Mr. Mayhem, asked "Is that an ashtray?". So according to my father, in this picture is a "shock and an ashtray.". Haha!

You kids just like to cause trouble with shock and awe... sh... tray.. s...

Didn't know you smoked E-Lew! Why else would you need one of those things?

Evan #2, I guess a test pipe (straight pipe, race pipe, I think it is all the same) is actually the way to go. Pablo can probably tell you more, but a test pipe bolts right into place and deletes both the cat and one resonator. It should also add about 8-10 HP due to no cat restriction. If it indeed deletes the resonator as well, then you just have one--cut that one out and you are good to go. All for well under 200 bucks!

Let me know if I am wrong, because I am not 100% sure.

Now this is where it gets fuzzy: about the cats and E-Check. I heard that if you delete both cats you won't pass E-check. But Marlon didn't you say none of your cars have cats and they all passed because they are OBD2 and just hooked up the code reader?

I've had 2 Civics and my P5 all pass E-check over the last 10 years and no one has ever used the mirror to see if I had my cat. I DID have a cat in each car and the OBD1 Civic had a sniffer test. But I wouldn't worry too much about the visual inspection. And my Civics and P5 were/are bloody loud.

Just gotta make sure you do plenty of research and buy the parts you will be happy with for a few years because as you know, exhaust bolts never like to come apart easily. :)

ps- Evan, your car is louder than you think. Everytime you come over I can hear you down the street and I always ask "Is that the stock exhaust?". Have one of your friends drive your car up and down the street and you can hear what it sounds like outside the car. It sounds good, mate.

The last I had to E-Check all that mattered was that my CEL was not lit. I went through the E-Check when it was lit and I failed.. I left to go home and figure what was wrong. The light went off for some odd reason so I turned around and went back and I passed.
