My TTD build thread

Thanks guys.

Nice. What tires are those?

Also, needs more side skirt ;)

The tires are 235/40/17 Nitto NT-01.

I don't think side skirts would give me enough benefit for the 2 points I would have to take for them under the TT rules (since I am at the limit of the class and would have to give something else up for it). I agree it would make it look a lot nicer though.

Fair enough. Ahh, the joys of building a competitive car within a ruleset :)

Made some progress this weekend. I relocated the batterty to the interior (under the dash on the passenger side) and added a cut-off switch. I'm about halfway through the fire suppression system install.

Damn, nicely done.

1 question though: You *are* going to have a pull for the fire suppression a bit closer to hand, right?

Yes, there are two cables. That one is for the safety crew, mine will be in the dash. Working on the mount for that now.

Excellent. That's pretty much what I *figured*, but I wanted to make sure. Good looking system. I'm always a fan of more safety when on track.

Very cool project. I've seen this a few times and always failed to realize that you live in OH. I'll have to come out to one of the events you race at to see this car. Great stuff.

Where in the car is the bottle mounted?

Like aMaff showed, I put it on the passenger side floor because I want to be able to see that the pin is removed while I'm on grid. I'm sure I would forget if I mounted it somewhere I couldn't see.

You're welcome to come out. I run with NASA Great Lakes region. The next three events are:

hey man. Love coming to you for questions since you always have a answers. I am now finally prepping my car for W2W. The class I will be going for is not that strict but the one thing I was hoping you might know is they want me to take out the steering lock. Do you have a pic or anything that could help me figure on doing this???

also do you mainly get your s*** from Pegasuses?? I need to pick up a fire bottle to but I just want to buy one from wallmart and pick up some roll bar mount quick release mounts from some wear.... unless I should just buy the one from Pegasuses for 147 bucks?

Good luck with your season man, I just sold my old open trailer and picked up a new 20ft enclosed. cant wait, its supposed to be 5 weeks till its ready.

I don't remember exactly which piece locked the wheel, but if you pull the air-bag, behind that will be a nut that holds on the wheel. If you remove that and pull the wheel off you will see all of the internal components behind it. It's not too bad. This was the only photo I could find that might help and I chopped the plastic quite a bit to fit the spline on it.

I get a lot of things from Pegasus. I get some things from Summit since it's a 10 minute drive for me. Hardware from tractor supply stores, and a decent amount of things from Lowes.

For the fire extinguisher, any automotive extinguisher will work. Having a good mount is the most important thing. If you find a mount you like, there should be no problem having an extinguisher from a non-racing supplier. The only thing I would check in your rules is whether the nozzle and handle have to be steel. Most of the hardware store and Walmart ones are plastic for those parts.

Trailer sounds great. That will make life a lot easier. Someday I will make the move too. Still a tow dolly for me....

Damn dude, that's friggin dangerous! I live about 45 minutes from their Georgia location, and that's already probably a bit too close for my wallet's comfort haha

Nozzles mounted in the engine bay and above fuel tank. Mounts installed for passenger compartment, but I need more tubing before I can finish.

Do I spy JB weld? Also: mount above the tank is a pretty good idea. Hard to tell from the pics (and being a few years out of having my own protege), but do you have one mounted above / near the fuel rail? If not, it's probably a good idea.

No JB Weld, just MIG. Not the prettiest in the world because I just burned through the paint instead of grinding it off. Looks fine when not zoomed in with a flash.
The nozzle on the strut tower is pointed at the fuel rail and the one behind the headlight is pointed at the exhaust manifold and turbo. Those seemed like the most likely sources of fire.
