So, I had an accident today...

As the title says, I had an accident today (well, it was technically yesterday morning) in the new 3. And the way it happened is beyond belief. I am beyond irate.

I was stopped at a traffic light behind a yellow school bus, and the driver of the bus decided to back up into my car! She claims another driver was trying to turn left onto the road we were on and was yelling at her to back up, so she did. Why she listened, and how she managed not to see me, is just unbelievable. The road is slightly declined, so by the time I shifted into reverse and started backing up the hill, it was too late. The flying M was like a bullseye - the bumper, hood, and grille are smashed, and while the headlights are miraculously intact, they are pushed in a bit. I'm too disgusted to post pics right now. Fortunately, there was no one on the bus but the driver, and I wasn't hurt.

Adding insult to injury, UPS delivered my CorkSport SRI later in the afternoon. It was supposed to be install day for the SRI and my JBR short shift kit, but instead it was spent dealing with the insurance company and getting an appraisal. The damage is at least $1200 (it will be more if they can't repair the hood).

Ugh. I don't even want to drive the 3 right now - I took the wife's Jetta to work tonight. I drove my old Protege (which I also bought new) for more than 6 years without having a single accident. I've had the new 3 for barely a month and the first payment isn't even due yet!

wow dude, sorry to hear this :( glad you are okay tho. i got rear ended 6 mo after i got my '06. i was not pleased. that and your accident are the reason that i really trust no one on the road (moving or stopped!). just make sure who ever fixes it is a TRUSTED shop of YOURS or you'll end up like me battling for 2 years over bad body work (which actually led to me finally trading it for my '10).

damn, 2 years!? that's insane.

fortunatley, I'm getting it repaired at my dealer's collison center, so I should get good service considering my family has bought 14 vehicles from them over the years. Also, Liberty Mutual is my insurance company, and my dealer's collison center is certified by them as a "Total Liberty Care" facility, which means the work is 100% guaranteed for the life of the car - if I'm not happy with their work, they have to redo it at no cost to me.

I just hope the subrogation process goes quickly, because I have to pay my $1000 deductible and wait to be reimbursed once LM recovers the money from the bus driver's insurance co.

Well best of luck on good work and getting the money your owed in a timely manner. I dont even want to talk about my wreck with a crazed driver with road rage. That wreck is the whole reason why I bought my MS3. Lets just say I had about 10k invested in the engine alone... :( Rest in Peace!

thanks!

that's crazy... 10k! I can't even imagine how angry you must have been. At least you have the MS3 to show for it though.

Ya I was trying to sell it anyway at the time, so I just think of it as a way out. Still makes me angry though. Im happy to have the MS3 now.

good news... the subrogation process is already complete - the bus driver's insurance co. was very cooperative and already sent the money to my ins. co. I should have my check by the end of next week.

Got the car back last night!

The paint job on the new bumper and the repaired hood is awesome, so from a distance, you can't even tell anything happened. When you get up close, you can see that everything isn't quite perfectly aligned. It's not perfect, but it's good enough.

/end thread!

If it isn't perfect you have the right to take it back and have it corrected

Yeah, I know. But I don't know that they can correct it without replacing the hood. It's misaligned just the slightest bit, but the hood opens and closes perfectly. I'll have to take pictures so you can see what I mean.

There should be some adjustment ability at the mounting points for the hood
