More Bad News

well, they cant replicate it, and video/picture evidence is not enough. picking it up tonight and putting all my stuff back in this weekend

wtf... what more do they want!!!??

goddamn bastards!!!!

yea i went to dealer and they said they couldnt get it to smoke either. And then they said once i put it to stock for me to bring it back for turbo replacement. I heard some people tell me that a catch can may be able to solve the problem.

Did you take it to Hamilton Imports on Route 33? You took it to them WITH your mods on? If so, let me know what mods you have. Because I know for a fact that if I put my testpipe back on that they'll be able to see smoke. I might just have to make the trek down there if they're that cool with mods. I was originally planning on bringing it there because thats where I bought it, but its so far away.

yea i took it to hamilton. their fine with it, BUT mazda sends a rep down from the headquarters or whatever to fully inspect your car for mods. They wont fix unless its bone stock!

I can say it worked for me...I guess...but, I didn't smoke before going catless. I believe prevention is the key here. Once oil has got around the turbo seals and coked to the shaft because of the heat, it's gonna smoke no matter what you do. I use 5 or 10 W 40 synthetic oil and change it out ever 3500 miles as well. So far, so good.

I wasnt smoking before going catless either. it smoked every once in a blue moon when i first took cats out so i didnt worry, now its pretty much when ever i get on it hard. maybe its worth the thirty bucks. even if it doesnt work at least i gave it a shot.

Hmm, unfortunately I don't have the stock intake. I'm able to put everything else back to stock though. Like I said earlier, putting the stock mid-pipe back in has made it seem like its smoking less. Whats bizzare is that it only smokes in the morning start up. Once I start driving it goes away for the whole day it seems. In any case, I'll be bringing it back to mazda soon and will tell them that I need to leave it for at least 2 days that way they can actually see it smoke. Going to try the PTP fix for now. In any case the car still runs great.

No offense but, you're sure this is turbo smoke? Even catless, this car steams like a young man's dreams in the morning, if the temps are below about 10* C.

Its possible, I agree. I do tend to think the worst, I wouldn't be thinking anything of it if it wasn't for when it first happened a couple of weeks ago when it was 70 degrees and there were billows of horrible smelling smoke coming out the tailpipe.

All winter it didnt smoke at all. It only seems to happen at random. didnt do it all week, and just randomly started doing it tonight again. i honestly have no clue anymore.

yea i have no low fluids and the car runs absolutely fine. Let me know how that ptp fix works for you. if it makes a difference ill do it too!

Got a new turbo and turbo oil lines courtesy of Mazda.I had the dreaded 'Smoke Condition' and an oil leak from the turbo's center housing. Also, the Air/Fuel Ratio sensor was replaced. The part number for the turbo is L3Y3-13-70ZC, if anyone may need it.

Well just got my car back from the dealer for the 2nd time. Over the last couple of weeks it was no longer steaming except for when I would first start her up. Accompanied with that was some water dripping out of the tailpipe as well. So with my PG FMIC kit coming in the mail in the next few days I wanted to make sure my car was taken care of before even thinking of putting the FMIC on. Well, again, they said they didn't really see any steam/smoke and didn't notice much water either. I believed them because with the change in temps I wasn't noticing it as much either. I told them of the sweet smell, so they did do a compression test and all the results came back normal, so no gasket or head problems. The tech said that he had noticed the sweet smell at start ups from several speed3's that he had worked on. So just got done putting back in the denso's, cobb tip, and bpv, as well as re-installing the AP. I figure I'll wait til tommorow to put the test-pipe back on. I guess it was just a case of me being an over-worrier, but better safe than sorry.

yea mine changes with the temps too. but when i boost i get it. imjust gonna stay away from unnecessary boost until i get some money saved to really start digging into the problem. i mean its been driving normal with no weird sounds or anything, just smoke.

Yeah, it did dissapear rather quickly and actually the longer it idles it seems to go away, but comes back as soon as I start driving or give it gas. My only worry is driving the car while it's like this.

doesn't sound like a smoking turbo to me then. the turbo smoke gets worse the longer you idle and does not just stop on it's own.

You're right, it wasn't the turbo smoking buuuut....yesterday I did have a very blue smoke coming out of my exhaust while getting her filled up at the gas station. Guys working there started looking at me funny and thats when i noticed it and turned the car off. Did it the day before as well while sitting at a red light right near my house. Both times was only a couple of minutes after starting the car with very little driving. As the day goes on it doesn't seem to happen even when I let it idle for a few minutes. In any case, I'm trying not to freak about it right now. I know that if I put my stock mid-pipe back in and take it to the dealer they definitely won't see it smoke so whats the point? I'm going to order the ptp fix today and next oil change I'll tell them up to switch to 5w40. We'll see what happens
