Protege5 stopped running this weekend :(

This issue first occurred on Saturday; it would stall when turning left or right but was fine in a straight line unless I floored it. On Sunday, I attempted to purchase a fuel pump assuming that this was the issue as the car has 97000k miles, and the car stalled completely at a stop sign. It would not start back up, I managed to remove the fuel pump and tested it but it appears to work, I am guessing the next thing could be the fuel pump relay I took out the relay, I assume it is the one closest to the strut bar in the fuse box, it looks fine, but I guess looks can be deceiving. I checked all the fuses and even check to see if the cables connected to the fuel pump had a voltage, one cable did, the other connected did not.

The battery has died so I am assuming the alternator could be the issue also. But that shouldnt cause the car to stall when turning

Is there anything else I can check? Thanks,

(uhm)

I would start at the most simple steps. Have you checked the fuel filter?, if the pump was okay during yout "Test" was the sock that goes on the pump clean or dirty? You should've of picked one up while you had it out as a just in case. They are around $9 at Auto zone.

Define testing a fuel pump outside of the tank....

LOL… The wife has a 2002 P5 also… The fuel pump worked perfectly fine in her car.

Since the fuel pump has 97000k miles on it, I am going to buy another fuel pump, strainer/filter and fuel pump relay and will see what happens. Since I took it out I might as well replace it.

Thanks,
