will this setup on stock suspension, rub?

I know some of you have this package, but you all already seem to be lowered and or have their fenders rolled.

I'm asking because I'm looking at possibly getting either Rota Grids or SVNs. I'd like to see if i can do this without rolling the fenders.

I believe the Grids are a 44 offset and the SVNs are a 48. The fronts will most likely rub the strut especially with the 48 offset.

Rears most likely will on with a good compression, but otherwise no. Also depends on the tire and how wide the particular brand and model runs.

I was thinking of dunlop star specs. And from what ive heard they run a bit on the wider side...

So from what your saying the Grids would be a better fit?

ok well mr.mazda says that 8.5s with 235/40s should be fine... hmmm

im probably going to go with the SVNs.

IMO, anything more than 8" wide is overkill if all you're going to be running is a 235 width tire...

If you're doing it for purely aesthetic reasons, then I suppose my point is moot.

I know 235/40 will fit on 18x8.5 just fine because it's what I have. The offset is what you have to take in consideration. You can't have an 8.5 wheel with an offset less than +40 without rubbing the fenders. Even +40 is pushing it.

And just like Yoo Shin said, +48 will more than likely hit the struts, maybe and maybe not. I really don't know because it isn't the fitment I have nor do I know anyone with it. But I'm positive 8.5 +45 works. It worked out for me just fine.

^ And there you have it. Someone with that fitment. 235/40 probably won't rub, idk.

A 235 would be tight on a 8.5 but not stretched. It'd keep the response quick and direct, though you'd lose some feel when hiting the +90% of the limit where the rounded tire would cost you some feedback and grip.

245 IMO on a 8.5 is just right. Great response, feel, plus grip and feel back. Think about how many sports cars come with a 8.5 wide wheel with 245 stock.

All that said, I'm doing 245/40s on 18x8.5s myself.

On SVNs, a 235 tire should be OK. Perhaps a bit of rubbing in the back under load. There are a couple of members running that setup without major problems, though section width does vary between tire manufacturers. Just make sure your offset is as close to +50 as possible. GL.

i have 18x8.5 +48 with 245/40/18. i didnt rub till 4 fat people sat in my car with a full trunk.

could we get a confirmation on that! im looking to go with the same size.. just want to know if stock suspension will be ok and if i have to roll any fenders.

Here's a pic of how close i was on mine. Although i was wearing a taller tire 225/45's, I dont think you will rub with the 235's. And if you do, you can just put a 3mm spacer up front. Honestly, I think a 8.5'' is overkill as well. My grip at the limit suffered. Thats why i went down to a 8'' wheel.

what do you mean 8.5 is suf....wouldent 8.5 be better then 8 on the track...wide'r the wheel the more traction your going to get...of course with proper tires

im doing svn's with a 235 40 18 kdw2s....********** said it was better then going tenzo cuzco 18x8

unless you guys think different because im going to make this move really soon...within the next month

Once again... I do autoX and open track. Cornering initial turn-in response was good, but limit of grip was worse cause the sidewall was stretched (225s). Plus, an 8'' wheel can support a 245, so there's no need to get anything bigger than a 8''. Its just extra weight with no benefits.

That depends on the wheel offset and what you're buying the tire for. If it's just street use and visual, go with a low offset no less than +35 (fenders rolled) with a 225/40. If it's for track, a high offset around +50 (fenders still rolled) with a 245/40.

From what I've seen, these figures work. Where I got these figures from? Years of lurking and researching and learning from others trial and error. That's how I got the fitment I have today.
