Should i buy a manual boost controller?

I'm considering buying a manual boost controller...

Is the stock fueling efficient enough for say 20psi?

Am i gonna run lean if i turn up the boost any more than stock?

I'm no expert but from what I've read the stock system as it is tuned hits about 18psi and can spike/overboost to 20psi. I believe that's the top end of the turbo.

That being said you shouldn't run too lean as the ECU should adjust the A/F mixture to richen you up a bit.

To be quite frank, I wouldn't mess around with adding a boost controller until you are really looking to make big power on your MS3. I mean you can get it and try turning it up to 20psi but doing anything beyond that I'd drop a bigger turbo, injectors, intercooler, wastgate, downpipe, and fuel management (amongst other things).

Sorry, not trying to sound authoritative but in my past experience I like to do thing safely.

Thanks man, I appreciate you actually sharing your input. I plan on only using it for racing. It would be nice to turn the boost down also for daily driving.

No prob. Once thing you might want to research is how adaptive the ECU is to boost increase/decrease. Typically these things are tuned with maps for certain AFRs (air/fuel ratios) and they aren't always tweak-friendly.

In the end I think you'll probably be ok.

One thing you might want to look into if you're racing is some solid motor mounts to eliminate wheel hop and engine bounce.

Good luck and keep us posted!

in all honesty that would happen, he was kinda rude about it but the turbo really runs out of the efficiency range at that point, and the stock fueling system can't handle it.

I'd use a boost controller on the stock K04 to keep boost levels low in an attempt to increase MPG but I really wouldn't let it push above 18PSI. If I ever have the $ laying around, I'd get one but for now I'm fine with the stock setup.

lol they werent joking about blowing up. look into getting new fuel pump first atleast. there are plenty of times even just adding a down pipe to these cars that they will run too lean.

True that. Safety first!

Although using an MBC to keep boost levels low wouldn't hurt since the ECU will adapt fairly well.

best option is NOT to use an MBC. the ECU on these cars are there for a reason to regulate boost. so using a MBC is not your best option. you can reliably go up to probably 18psi though. you might get fuel cut or KR though because the stock FP sometimes wont keep up. honestly you should probably wait for the Cobb AP to come out cause then you can tune atleast with OTS maps for better boost and intakes and atleast be able to monitor the FP and the KR so you dont blow
