Going into the shop already......

So last night on the way home I'm sitting at a light and out of nowhere, I get ****** rear ended! So I'm pissed, because I was at a complete stop. Then some dude pulls up next to me and says "you need to get that guy, he almost hit me doing about 90!" So I get out to see wtf he was thinking. This asshole backs up and takes off....loses control (it was raining) flies across the median and hits traffic going the other way head on. Man I wanted to beat that dudes ass! Luckily for me, only damage done was it punched my license plate through the bumper and knocked the bumper off a little on the sides. Still attached, but looks like its just off the clips. Could probably pop right back in, but I'm not going to worry about. Rather wait and have the shop handle it. So cop comes over and said this guy was high as a kite so he was arrested (DUI I would assume). I really feel bad for the other car because they didn't see it coming and he hit them head on.

that blows! Im glad the cops got him though.

Glad no one was hurt. As much as we love our cars, in the end it's just car. (Tell that to the finance company). Think of it as a battle scar, the shop will take care of it and you'll be good to go. Also if they caught him, at least it will go on his insurance, not yours!

that is if he actually HAS insurance... and I think he'll get slammed with more than just a DUI.

hope it all goes well for the OP. I'd like to hear how this all ends up.

glad your ok man.

Yeah, its a good thing the cops got him because I was ready to kill the guy. Especially having my gf and two kids in the car. Had he not pulled away when he did, I would have yanked him out of the car. But overall, definitely glad everyone was ok. Thankfully he also did have insurance. So at least the fix will be on his insurance's dime. Not mine.

reckless endangerment, hit and run, DUI, speeding, unnecessary assholiness

Too bad he wasn't killed in the head-on...

totally agree. when someone behaves like that they should be shot

glad your ok and that no innocent people were injured.

I don't know how hard he hit you, but check your head rest and if there was a passenger, check the passenger seat......our cars have active head rests....so they give upon impact....if you see or feel any movement front to back...get the upper part of your seat replaced.....when i was involved in my rear end collision my whole upper seat had to be replaced...just fyi...

Wow, ok. I'll be sure to get those checked. It wasn't terribly hard of an impact, but it was enough to tear my license plate nearly in half and punch it through the bumper.

too bad he's probably an addict and jail-time won't help him out and he'll probably do it again.

but that's pretty crazy, wonder what the drug was

So you got missed by the drunken driver but not from pot head. Legalise marijuana baby lol.

Ouch. I live in Riverview, grew up in Brandon. Where did this happen? And where are you going for the repairs? Nearest body shop I trust is in Orlando, although it sounds like this is likely to be a "bolt on" job with the bumper cover. Hope the bumper itself is OK underneath.

It happened at the intersection of Adamo and the I-75 offramp. I was sitting at the light facing west (staring at the Falkenburg intersection). I was actually leaning toward getting it done at the Brandon Mazda. The other guy's insurance company uses them, so I figured why not? I bought the car from them, so I figured I'd get it done there. Its not going to be on my dime, so if its not done right, I'll make them redo it. I really don't expect much damage underneath. Guess we'll see once I take it in for the estimate.

I'll be very interested to hear how your experience with them goes. I take my MS3 there for oil changes, as they're cheaper for a full synthetic change than either the chains or independent shops ($52). I had one issue where they charged me for regular dino oil, but claimed they had actually used synthetic when I pointed out the error, then changed their minds & took it back to change it again. Left me just a little skittish, but not enough to go elsewhere.
