Well either theres a languagare barrier in here or something else is happening. I'm not being cheap how many times i have to explain this whole situation..............
excuses... if you think language is an issue, type it in spanish.... there's plenty of spanish speakers here
The machine shop charges 50 Euros per sleeve, then you have to add the labor and machining the block probably i didn't say this from the begining is not a 200 euros either job is more but it will definitely be less than buying an entire engine that i only need the block and not the rest of the parts, what am i going to do with the rest store it ? trow it away after paying for them? ,
so sell the s*** or keep it as spares, DUH! if you bought the right motor, you can have spare parts, otherwise you're not (like buying one of those old disty FS-DEs)
About the FS Engine These engines in here are very rare, mazda Itselft is a very rare and expensive car here in Spain, i was just saying no Junk Yard will sell me only the block they will sell me the entire engine even with the transmission since theres no demand for these engines they want to get rid off everything because after they wont sell s***, if you only take the block, they can't later sell the head or the transmission you get the point ?
what did I say already? there's many european countries where mazdas are somewhat popular and you can find the s*** there... it's not our problem if you have communication issues (language) with those "foreign" people, nor have bad searching skills to find them... I found people/places to get me my EDM parts, why can't you? you're not trying to say I have better social or business skills than you are you?
Im not being cheap and also i didn't say I WILL SLEEVE THE BLOCK i was asking for some inputs in here before deciding that, in the mean time i was sourcing a used block to just hone it add standard size pistons and that's about it, but buying a block itself in here is complicated cause they aint many plus the amount of cash they want for them. Bringing one from US will cost alot plus buying something so delicate overseas without knowing the condition of it and paying a very high shipping and custom fees is something to take into consideration Thats not also being cheap, at this point i don't give a s*** anymore about making more HP than what it did I'm happy to be the first to hit 515whp on a 3rd Gen Protege but that's about it..... I just want to have it back at the road have fun with it, and later Sell it to buy my kids a house I will get a very very good amount of money for it in here.
the block is a big chunk of metal, what is there to damage? seriously, how much does a bare block weigh with NOTHING except the bearing caps? that s*** can be well packed and protected with blocks of wood bolted down on top of it (where the head would go on) and tons of other padding then stuffed in a sturdy cardboard box and shipped by UPS... it's going to be crazy expensive, but a bare block does NOT weigh more than 100lbs
Well do you know anybody that is selling for a descent amount of cash an FS Block with Standard bore ? if you do let me know and quote me shipping for it, my Zipcode is 29620 SPAIN i don't give a s*** if the shipping is by Sea.

Well i think I will Sell my Pauter Rods and my J&S Safeguard and i'll just ******* contact SAM and get a damn Built short Block and i'll safe damn headaches and just get it shipped by Sea. or if anybody is willing to sell be in a good price a used FS block PM me Thanks this BEING CHEAP s*** is getting on my nerves...
selling the rods and J&S IS the definition of being a cheap bastard
your head gasket blew right from the beginning because you didn't even know you were putting piss in the engine... and then these pistons broke due to some incompetence on someone's part or detonation... the J&S is what's going to keep that motor together... everyone who cheaped out and not have a J&S all blew their s*** to chunky pieces when they turned up the boost or had a bad tune

I'm sick and tired of repeating myself to you, especially since you demand everything on a silver platter and you're too ******* lazy to search yourself... there's a thread with all the FS engine info here, yet you don't care to look for it when it has everything you want to know about it and which cars it came in... if you're refusing to listen to us but listening mechanics blow smoke up your ass, go ahead... in the end, you still don't know s*** about modifying proteges because you paid someone to do it all for you and you didn't care to sit down and learn to do it all by yourself

I think everyone in here need to Calm the **** down. Everyone was cheering him on before the drama started, and now your all attacking him!

Im a fan of your build, it too bad it didnt work out the first time. if you are going to buy a new block anyways, why not try the sleeve first. Its going to be 200+ EUROs and you might be able to get away with it. I guess you risk causing damage to the head and crank, but if the machine shop give you a guarantee then cross that bridge when you come to it.
its hard to do this when everyone has been repeating themselves over and over and getting frustrated when he doesn't listen, yet comes back and asks for more advice

the point of "no care" is coming up very close for everyone I think

my isuzu 1.6l dohc 4XFE iron block (only engine I've had fully disassembled) was easily handlible by my scrawny 160lb (at the time) ass... it can't be that much.

yeah, I don't think it weighs more than 100lbs either... but somebody has to know!

oh and you know that old saying... when there's a will there's a way!
I think that applies very well to this thread

a 318ci weighs 244lbs loaded with a rotating assembly... so figure 200 max bare.

heres a list of honda engine weights I found, mind you these are complete:

Engine Weights:
D16 Si = 218.9 lbs.
Std/DX = 207.7 lbs.
HF = 195.3 lbs.
ZC = 247.9 lbs. (give or take a little.....)
B16 = 309 lbs.

so is there a reason why someone in the US can't buy a short block, tear it down to bare and ship it to him? him paying for parts, labor, and freight of course
he's going to tell us how expensive customs is.

and then we're going to ask how he was able to buy all the other parts shipped from the US.

he's going to tell us about customs again.

etc.

I should have kept mine, and sold it for more to him. He has a friend here in Miami that might be able to source one for him.

more expensive than buying a whole engine from say poland?

Lets move on. He is a big boy. When he gets everything worked out he will lets us know. You can lead a horse to water but...........

Mazdaspeed2003.5: the machine shop is either underquoting you on the sleeve job something fierce, or they are not going to be doing a good job.

Sleeving requires some pretty extensive machine work. The sleeves themselves are not overly cheap for good quality parts (sleeves are usually made from exotic materials, that are expensive and difficult to work with. To my knowledge nobody makes sleeves for the FSDE so they are going to need to be custom so you are up for design time - the sleeve manufacturer will need to draw them up in cad, any specialised tooling that may be required, labor, etc). The sleeves themselves will likely be coming from the USA, so you are up for shipping and customs fees anyway.

If you think that sleeving is cheaper than a new engine, you are either kidding yourself, or your machine shop is LYING TO YOU AGAIN.

Add to that, there are risks with sleeving an iron block. If you look at Darton's website (a manufacturer of quality sleeves) - they talk about clearences on an iron block. if the sleeves are not clearenced properly, when they all get pressed in place it could crack the block - rendering it useless.

Sleeving is fairly extreme - its usually only done on iron blocks to achieve radical overbores on engines that do not require much or any cooling. Its a level of compromise that you will not be able to live with - in the end the block will give up the ghost.

As for making 515horsepower. That kind of number is AT LEAST 100 horsepower more than you should be aiming for. 350hp is pretty beefy for a road only car.

As for mazda's being rare and expensive in spain... well, i don't live in spain so i can't comment - but i find it hard to believe that ANY front wheel drive, grocery getter is going to be perversely expensive ANYWHERE in the world. Especially in a country where you can get much faster prestige brand cars for less than you can anywhere else in the world. The bottom line is you are not looking hard enough for a replacement block. You just want an easy solution.

words of the day

I almost forgot about his ****** up cooling issues he had to begin with... reusing that block when the whole engine was overheating to begin with, are you kidding me?
