is it so wrong to get mad at someone for saying that a car is just a car. I hate it when people think of there cars as something to get from point A to Point B. And especially when they say that i should have the same view point as them!!!

I say F*** that!!!! I'm a die hard car guy and I'll gladly send someone to the dentist for tellin me that my car is just a car. Is it so wrong to have a passion for something you love. And whats worse is when you run into those types of people on car forums like this!!! thats bulls***, get the f*** outta here!!!!

I'm not the only way that feels this way right????

Your car is just a car, it's something to get you from point A to Point B. Nothing more.

(I could use a good teeth cleaning. :)

Some cars are just for commuting, some cars don't make good commuters...What's the issue? I'd find it hard to swallow for someone to say that a Ford GT is just for getting groceries, but it'd be believable for someone to say an RX-8 is a grocery getter.

Think of it this way, most females are very picky about how they look from their clothes, shoes, hair, make-up, nails, and even smell. Why, because the way a female looks and treats herself tells people a lot about them. It is the same with cars, a car is kind of an extension of a person's personality. A trashed car will tell you that the person could care less about their car or if their car is trashy then their house must be trashy. Also, females like to treat themselves to some shopping for clothes, shoes, and other things. Car enthusiasts like to treat their cars to some shopping for parts, electronics, rims/tires, and more. It is the same concept. Bottom line is, to most people, a car is not just a car. It is a passion, hobby, sport, or whatever else you want to call it. If a car was just a car, every automotive sport there is would not exist. How did NASCAR begin? Why do people travel across the U.S. for car shows? Need I say more? Come on now, Hot Import Nights, NOPI Nationals, SEMA? If a car was just a car, the SPEED channel would not exist. A channel just for car enthusiasts. Performance shops and garages...they are ran by people with a passion for cars. Everyone on this forum has a passion for cars one way or another. How I see it is, if a car is just a car then, why don't all cars look the same then? So, once again, a car is not just a car. I am not trying to start an argument but I just want to get a point across that if everyone thought a car was just a car, there would not be an aftermarket for cars. Half of this forum probably would not exist. Get my point?

How did NASCAR begin?

To be fair, NASCAR was began by rum runners who suped up their cars to make them more efficient for the work that they did. Eventually someone got the bright idea that they could compete against each other and voila, NASCAR.

Everyone has "their thing". If it's not cars, they might be passionate about photography, tennis, computers, air jordans, model airplanes, etc. I could personally care less about collecting shoes. Do you think other ppl give a second thought to our hobby? That's the way I see it. Obviously to us it's more than a hobby, but from an outsider's point of view, it's easy to see it as just that.

thanks for clearing that up, but you see my point right?

yeah i feel the same way... but ppl have thier own opinions on different things... BUT my opinion is cars are dope... xpecially since they can bring some type of xcitement to my busy and stressful life.

Yeah I love every single vehicle I have ever owned and just can't leave em stock and currently have 3 cars I am modding. The good thing about some of these people is they leave the car stock and don't drive the crap out of them. Also when it comes time to sell they sell them for cheap cause there is not emotional attachment to the car.

I'm not passionate about my car. It's an A to B car. Hell it's a FWD wagon how fun can it possibly be? I can do anything and everything to it and it's still going to drive me to and from work just the same which is where most of my mileage comes from. It's still going to get door dings, scratches, doused with salt all winter, etc... like any daily driver but since I'm not passionate about the car that stuff doesn't bother me. On the plus side it's reliable, cheap to maintain, gets decent gas mileage, has a good amount of space, and has a lot of nice comfort features like heated seats and a sunroof.

A passion for cars does not mean a passion for every car.

That to me is the worst part... when u grow emotionally attached to the car it makes it so much harder to sell it... When i traded my EGT-T for my P5 I felt like i was losing a child as i signed the title.... not a cool feeling

^^This.

Unless you're prepared to get punched in the mouth for not creaming your pants over every other enthusiast's passion, then I suggest you chill out. Some people are nuts over model trains, some people are nuts over dolls, some people are nuts over collecting stamps. Even within the car world people have their preferences.

I say if you're truly passionate about cars, instead of getting mad at someone who thinks "a car is a car", share with them a little bit of your enthusiasm. My GF used to be one of "those" people. In fact the last car she bought, she just went out and bought the first one she saw that she could afford. This time around, I have her amped up about the process, and she's actually taking time to consider things like potential modability instead of just the color. lol

Also, consider that being an enthusiast doesn't mean a blind love of everything automotive and a hatred of anyone who doesn't agree. That's pretty much religious zealotism, which is just as bad as not caring IMO.

+1!

Besides, saying you want to punch someone in the teeth because they don't share your enthusiasm is a little (screwy).
