Anyway to modify clutch engagement

I test drove the 2010 speed the other day, and loved the way the clutch felt. Is there anyway to modify the clutch pedal's feel, make it softer in my case, and also change where the clutch engages? It would be terrific if I could mimic the '10's feel.(yes)

I drove a speed6 a while back and was surprised at how different his clutch was compared to the speed3. I asked him if it was stock and he said he adjusted it. Went on here to ask how and someone said it can't be. Idk I want to change mine too.

No more like change the place where it engages. The speed6 I drove engaged almost as soon as you came up on the pedal. It was much better for hill starts and quick shifts.

i think u may be able to adjust, i thought i saw it in the service manual, but lazy to look through it .. so many pages.

The only thing I can find in the service manual is to verify that the engagement is within spec. Does not say how to adjust it if its not in spec so my guess its not adjustable.

the engagement point cant be modified, since clutch is hydraulic. Difference that you are experiencing is normal, every car has different clutch, even that they are same models, same years.
Every car will vary..

The Speed 6 has an adjustable clutch pedal and its hydro, too. Mazda just cheaped out on the Speed 3s because of the price point.

Clutch engagement sucks on every Speed 3, "all cars vary" not that much when they are new. The engagement point is too high and the pedal effort too low. I like the term "suicide clutch", it's basically all in instantaneously and too high in the travel for my tastes.

Here's a verison of an old drag racer trick.

I've not tried this on the MS3, but there's no reason why you can't do basically the same thing for those of us who have the clutch engagement point up high with nothing happening for several inches down to the floor.

I had a set up like this on a MOPAR muscle car I ran regularly on the drag strip and it worked great. You can adjust the stop up pretty high when on the strip or track, and remove or lower it on the street or set it up somewhere in between.

This is effective, low tech, old school and is not rocket science.

I call it a digital clutch...

I thought about a clutch-stop mod for this car already, being massively old school like you. I thought of actually mounting it on the FRONT of the pedal to take up the slack there and place the engagement point right at toe touch. Another way to do that is to spring the clutch pedal slightly to pull in the slack. No ideal, since it's still too high and I'd prefer the engagement down low off the floor. The only risk with my idea is the possibility of wearing out the the throwout bearing prematurely. Perhaps a stop front AND back of the pedal, assuming that will still allow us to engage first and reverse easily....hmmm, experiments might be in order, if I can find the time.....

Oh, there's always one, isn't there, never fails....

I've been drag racing cars for decades and, never have I heard of anyone wanting engagement "high and tight" or even "just about center..."

Everyone wants it in right off the floor and engaging progressively on a stick car, that's the business.

I can drive around the shortcomings of the Speed in this area but, I'd rather not have to, if I'm honest. If I could devise a solution that was cost effective, you wanna bet there wouldn't be a queue around the block to buy it?
