Hardwired valentine 1 - instructions to remove map light assembly

Hi guys,

I think it applies to this forum as well since it deals with hardwiring a radar detector. If anyone in this forum can shed some light, that would be great, thanks.

You do realize that a lot of people use a radar detector as a early warning system incase they are going a little faster then they thought. Not everyone who has a radar detector automatically does 20 over the speed limit.

Edit: As far as the clips on the light they are normally on the side. You can always try to find the part online and look at that image to get an idea.

What he doesn't know is that I am New Jersey's official supermarket automatic door counter for the 2010 census. My hardwired detector allows me to count the doors as efficiently and quickly as possible to save tax payer dollars. Now I just have to figure out how to eliminate false positives (police radar)! (lol2)

EDIT: I went to mazda-parts.com and found the attached pic. Does it look like the clips are in front (ie, facing front of the car) of the console to you? Tough to tell because you can't see the back.

i would assume so but keep in mind i do not own a cx anything so just be careful when doing so. My friend has wired his TOMTOM and scangauge(i think thats what its called anyways) in the same way on his 3! I might do the same later on down the road.

That's the standard cop out excuse for owning a radar detector. "I use it sto remind me' to slow down" BS. People know EXACTLY how fast they are going. It's sole purpose is to allow you to speed excessively without getting caught. It's exactly the same mindset as people who obscure their license plates to allow them to run red lights.

I'm not a saint on the interstates, but I drive according to conditions, not just balls to the wall until my my detector goes off.

I dont know about you but have you ever driven a car long distance without cruise controll? I have and after 8 hours its gets really easy to go faster then you think you are going. No, I'm not goign tot sit there and glare at the speedo all day either.

Oh by no means am i saying anyone is a saint. I'm not either by any means of the word. Hell even my GPS has a alarm that you can set for it to beep at you if you go over a certain predefined speed but that doesn't mean I'm only going to go so fast over the speed limit. Its just another tool to help save money and be helpful on long road trips.

Anyways, thanks for your help. I unscrewed the two screws, which loosened the assembly, and then pulled it down by working the headliner over the clips in the picture with a flat head screwdriver. Even with the screws removed it's still tough to remove the assembly.

I might do a DIY when I actually install it. I'll call it "DIY - supermarket door detector hardwire" to ward off the trolls. (stfu)

I do all those things... and use my radar detector so I can haul ass everywhere and not get caught.

finally got around to hardwiring my v1 today. took longer than expected since the overhead map light console had no wires that had 12v in the ON/ACC positions but 0v when OFF. One of the bundles (for the sunroof) had separate 8v and 4v powered wires that had no power when OFF but no 12v). doublechecked each wire twice w/ my multimeter.

so, i had to go directly to the fuse box. tapped the cigarette lighter fuse and ran the cable up the A pillar and along the headliner. Photos and DIY to follow shortly.

I run my radar detector power cable along with compass/autodim/homelink mirror cable.
Compass wire is tabbed to switched 12v, so I tabbed radar wire to it as well.

I wonder if the 2009 CX-9 is different? The wiring for the rear view mirror was difficult to access so I didn't try those wires, just those that went into the map light/sunroof console. Also, my rear view mirror doesn't have a compass...should it?

Auto-dimming uses switched 12v. Homelink(R) uses constant 12v. Both can be found from the mirror to the driver's side kick penal (near your left ankle). Factory installation recommends tapping the contacts there. If I need 12v (constant or switched), I will find them there as well because you can run wires to most places easily.

Exactly what I have done mine.
I installed Remote Start and Rear View Mirror myself.
Factory Accessories come with very detail installation instruction.
When I do Rear View Mirror, I found it has switched 12v. So I tap my Cobra power to it.
