Has your MS3 had a mechanical failure?

11k on the '09 and no mechanical issues. Have a rattle at speeds over 80, i think its the cowl rattle posted about, and a slight clunk when stopping in reverse, maybe the transmission mount. It will be in the dealer for an oil change soon so will have them inspect. just went on a 4k road trip, and it was a little rough on the kidneys at times, but she performed very nice.

34,XXX miles and no problems. I have only owned it for 4k of those miles though. Just had oil change and standard inspection at dealer and they reported no issues.

Go get your vvt actuator replaced while car is still under powertrain warrenty(60,000miles). It will go out eventually because it is a faulty part. The pin will pop out eventually no matter how you drive the car. They will replace it will something different that has the pin welded in so that it won't happen again. Mine went out at 63,000 miles...

not to threadjack...assuming there are no probs w/ the vvt yet, how would you phrase your request to the dealer, getting him to replace a part that hasn't failed yet? would the svc dept listen or just dismiss your request flat out? i'm a great believer in proactive maintenance, can't really say if my dealer would agree. i can tell you i'd hate for the powertrain wty to expire, quickly followed by expensive repairs... (wow)

Evaporative Master valve failure at all of 250 miles. Goof at the parts plant, a tiny bit of over-extruded material jammed it. No big deal. If it had happened now I would have noticed a mileage issue, but seeing as I was still in break-in and the car was running richer then the Hamptons it didnt matter.
I wont b**** about the stock tires...

I'd like to hear this answer also. How do you know if it's failing also?

On topic, I'm happy that the majority of us have not had major mechanical troubles. I thought the results would be more negative.

<- Hydrolocked at ~25k miles. Problem most likely wouldn't have happened without the CAI so now I have a cobb sri, no problems.

I haven't had money to mod much, and haven't had any problems... so I don't post much. I'd say the reason it looks like our cars have so many problems is because most of the people who post on the forums are people who post to find solutions to problems. The closest things I've had to problems are when I had growling noise from using synthetic amsoil gear lube (fixed by using ford fluid), and a TPMS light that comes on due to a sensor that was probably damaged when I blew out a tire. No problems with the car that weren't my fault.

25,000 km, no grief other than a few loose hose clamps and the a/c/climate control deciding to shut itself off after running for 8+ hours in near 40 degree C heat. Whatever that was, it was fine after a stop and restart cycle and hasn't returned.

AEM CAI, Forge BPV, CS Downpipe.

13K+ on the ODO

No issues, except a rattle by the drivers seat/center console area. There are many people pushing 75K+ on these cars, but this is the first time I've heard about the VVT actuator.

I have my 2008.5 MS3 just over a year, with only 7900 miles on the clock. No mechanical problems at all, up to this point. I did have a stuck gas cap, but that doesn't qualify as a mechanical issue.

Only 19k on mine, but the only issue I had was the stuck gas cap, and that's hardly a mechanical failure. (Not in the sense of engine mechanics)
