Thanks man atleast im trying to take this car and engine to its limits. its sad there is lots of people that still dont believe on these cars and its potential, theyll be surprise of what this engine and car can do.

I think its the money that has to be spent on the trannies is what scares most away from modding the FS.

Well i dont have that much money on my Transmission if you ask me. Just TBK 3rd and 4th gears, Welded LSD front and back of it, stronger synchros and cryo treatment the whole transmission inside. I dont see anything special like i said. I believe its about how you setup your build, Im very surprised that people with smaller turbos and less HP are breaking the tranies, gears and lsds lfrom left to right. Having a big turbo means much less stress on the transmission, gears, and LSD do to the fact that they make power and torque at a different rpm and speed range Ive seen somewhere here a guy that broke PAR Straight cut gears with stock turbo if not mistaken that is kind of hard to do being the gears in Straight cut. a Faster and smaller turbo spool much faster putting an incredibly amount of stress and torque to the gears at such low rpms and speed causing failure to the transmission and it components..

This is essentially the same thing MS3 owners are saying... if they make a lot of torque in low RPMs, they break s***... if it doesn't come on til later, they're fine.

Well i guess that is the key do to the fact the numbers im putting down and my tranmission and shity welded LSD are still together. I really like my setup there are people that says 35R turbo are laggy but boosting at 4k all the way to 7.5k and being on full boost on every gear is the bomb if you ask me you never run out of air and the push is incredible. there are people breaking straight cut gears, lsds, gears etc with less HP how can you explain that.

They cant drive? Or they dont have a welded LSD. lol

Well when i had 249whp and stock turbo i destroyed my 3rd and 4th gear, and now that im doubling those numbers my transmission is still together. People are kind of scare to put a big turbo for some strange reason when having stock turbo at anything higher than 14 psi can destroy your tranmission and lsd.

short answer: torque...

the fact that your redline is significantly higher also makes the boost lag more manageable for you...

Ill be at 20psi on a GT3071r or gt3061r :) I think ill be safe, but im getting PAR gears aswell, cause I love how they sound LOL

Well yes and no. my last torque numbers was 409 lbs and transmission still together got to knock on wood,Also i dont feel any lag on my setup at all is just the way you setup your build. I like bigger turbos better than faster spooling smaller ones for the simple reason they spool fast but die from mid to up top. when the bigger ones spool later and never stop making power and pushing from mid to up top.

This is of course based on my personal expercience and previous builds and stages ive done to this car.

torque is the answer though... think of the physics difference between 409 ft lbs at say.... 5K RPM's... vs 250 ft lbs at... 2.5K RPMs... the 250 is significantly more stressful for the transmission. each tooth is bearing the load a lot longer at low RPMs, instead of each tooth only holding that stress for a milsecond before passing it to the next.

I totally agree with you on this, as well that what kills the clutchs are not the HP its simply the torque.. thats why when you buy the a clutch its by how much Torque they hold not estimated HP they do.

the only thing you have to consider there is that they're probably rated at the stock redline... and they hold less as you spin them faster...

its still listed, dropping the payment would be nice, but... i'm not what one would call serious about selling it.

Should be getting a full DP and TP made in a few weeks, trying to get a set of FD wheels.. but all of that is basically funding dependant, and its not looking real promising. Just picked up some GTSpec stuff for dirt cheap, but can't use the Vbrace til I find a lower reinforcement panel... and I want it in orange to match... got the rear strut brace too, all for about $45. that, some interior dress-up and an SSAFC2 and I'm basically done... I want to fiberglass a custom sub enclosure and lip spoiler, but thats going to require downtime...

Sounds very interesting.. well finding orange GTspec stuff is going to be difficult since they are all discontinued. if you ever need any GTspec stuff you can contact my boy MATT at www.gummygrip.com. hes the only one nation wide that gets GTspec stuff from GTspec first than any other shop nation wide and stock more parts than anybody else..

yeah, I already contacted them via ebay... and they can't get that piece in orange... but still haven't updated the pic on the ebay listing so I got all excited for nothing...

People that have everything from GTspec for the Proteges can consider them self lucky because GTspec are going to stop making and selling their Product line for our cars..

I'm hoping to make my own for at least one piece. I've got 2 1" alumnium bushings that were origionally briggs and stratton motor mounts... I was going to use em to make a rear strut bar til I landed that deal. now I'm not sure.

Yeah.. i mean its damn sad GTspec is not making anything new or still selling their awesome braces and bars for our cars man.. theres so much stuff they can make and improve to our cars

yeah, but its a dying platform. cast off in the shadow of the MS3 now...

I love my car to death, but I'll openly admit, its really quite far from an ideal platform. if there was a more stout inline 4, that bolted in, I'd be a lot more excited about it. Not all of us can throw 50K at a build. lol
