[Here's the monthly sales report I've been doing, it just adds the historical monthly sales from 2007 to 2009]

North America Mazda released their July 2009 US sales data.

In July 2009 1,944 Mazda5s were sold, up 45.5% from June 2008.

For comparision 9,771 Mazda3s were sold in July. Mazda sales overall were down 32%.

Here's the data I have gathered from 2007 to the present.

I'm that guy who sells em...

If you can give me some manual shifts here in canada...I can sell two fold them stats eh...

Stats are great but really post what was produced to which then was sold at end product....you will find production is down from square one ...

I think the Mazda5 is really the only bright spot in what is dreary news across the board for Mazda.

I hope their sales recover soon but because I'm getting a bit worried about the company as a whole...

I want to buy the new MS3 just to help things a bit. (I love the smiley face front end, it's grown on me since day one). Pipe dream for another couple of years though. :(

I'm seeing more and more 2010 3s, and there's no shortage of CX7s. Hopefully the MX-2 comes out soon.

From what I've heard from a friend who is looking for a Mazda5, they are basically sold out in this region (Illinois/Missouri area). They are being advertised at $11,500 for an '09 manual sport if you have a qualifying CFC vehicle (before tax, title, licenese, $200 doc fee).

I'm proudly one of those July '09 numbers! Just bought a '09 Sport from Gallo in Worcester - so far extremely happy with the car. We looked around at MA dealerships & stock on the 5 was extremely low in July (I assume with the '10 line coming out sometime soon). Was happy to get one at a great price.

Wanted to add that we bought the 5 as a people mover - 3 kids, one dropped off & picked up at school 35 miles away - so kept it cheap with good gas mileage (we get reimbursed from the school district for transport, so the better the mileage, the more profit) and we have been very impressed with the options on what is basically the bottom trim line model.

We bought a used '08 Mazda 6 at the same time - 5k miles on it. First time we've bought Mazdas... got our fingers crossed.

2009 Manual Sports all gone...

Dave, I think you bought the one I wanted. I have been looking for a Mazda5 Sport Manual for about 6 weeks now. Those July sales numbers explain why I had so much trouble getting a dealer to talk to me -- they were busy moving those units to somebody else.

I would like to see those numbers broken down by trim. I think manual transmission cars are seeing a resurgence!

So now I have to hope for a used 2008 car to show up on the market, or wait for the next model year cars to come in.

When do those new 2010s arrive???

I was told by a MD dealer that the 2010s are due mid-late Oct.

I got the Sport Automatic... they had, um.. 2 in stock? And a Grand Touring.. Actually, I wouldn't mind a manual - I use the 'Sport Drive' shifting a lot - I've got a personal belief it saves on brake wear.

Dealer invoice on the 5 Sport Automatic is $17,800 (according to Edmunds), so with CFC I would expect pricing around $13,300 - give or take.

I believe IRA had a good selection, but central & western MA were real low on stock.. not that they couldn't get one for you. Gallo has really changed their act (at least I have the feeling they had a bad rap a few years ago) - a new sales manager has replaced a lot of people & I had a great experience there!

I think manual transmission cars are seeing a resurgence!

I've the feeling that Manual Tranny owners are more prone to talk about their cars in forums like this one, that is why it seems that the need is more "visible" than the actual demand for them. I'm sure Mazda would have seen that already if that was the case.

In my case both cars were sitting lonely around the rest, and they were actually surprised I asked for MT in the 1st place :D

Anyway, MTs are hell elusive, they are making fewer and fewer (and cutting the trims)...

Wohstah and Billricah, oh those old times :D

Dave, thank you very much for the advice. I had not tried Gallo yet, so I am hoping that the car I want materializes and that I get along with them. You've given me hope.

I started looking on July 1, and there were plenty out there, according to cars.com. There was a nice $1750 factory-to-dealer incentive that expired August 3. Like an idiot I assumed that a) there would be plenty of cars left the dealers would want to unload before the MY end and b) there would be another incentive in August, maybe an even bigger one this time!

See what happens when you get greedy?

And, "No one expects cash for clunkers."

I might have cost myself a fair amount of money, not to mention the car itself, by waiting.

Supply and demand, FTW, as the moderator might say.

You sound like me! Luckily, my wife was worked up about all the sales tax increase hype, and made me get off my lazy a$$ before Aug 1st. When we started looking I was surprised at how little stock there was out there too.

I did find Gallo's web inventory to accurately reflect their on lot stock - let's just say this is not always the case in the world of dealer websites! A quick browse of their site is showing 0 Mazda 5... but give the salesman who's # I PM'ed you a call... Gallo appears to have turned a new leaf in the last few years and they are def. interested in developing customers vs. quick sales (at least that was my experience.. your mileage may vary (smash) )

Dave-

Problem solved. Gallo is getting a 5 manual from the factory in a few weeks. I put down a deposit, and they have already told what to expect on the price. I like this dealer. Why don't they all operate like this? Why do they all have to be so shady and hostile?

Anyway, thank you again for the referral. My wife was very happy last night when I told her. Score one for the internet community.

Not seeing those prices here.

Attached is the ad. The fine print is that to get the Mazda5 for $11,500 (destination (shipping) included), you need to participate in the cash for clunkers program and you cannot use the 0.9% Mazda financing (you use your own bank, pay cash, or let them arrange financing). Also, it's a Sport with manual transmission, auto is about $1,000 more. Plus tax, title, $185 doc fee, $25 title processing fee if you don't live in Missouri. You can call them if you want but they were sold out when my friend called them.

That's the same group where I bought my '09 Mazda5 in February for $16,500 though I also got 0% financing for three years with no payments for 90 days and no money down.

Edit: $16,500 plus $1,500 for tax, title, license, doc fee, etc. Came out to just under US$18,000.

Here in Canada, the base price for the 5 GS (base model) is around 20K + freight, 24K for the GT. There is a cash rebate of 3K, so 18,500/22,500 OTD. No cash for clunkers, but pre-1996 vehicles can be scrapped for 8-16 hundred depending on the efficiency of the new car.

Well, my friend took advantage of the Cash for Clunkers program and now has an '09 Mazda5 Sport, purchased from one of the Bommarito dealerships in the ad above. He said that there were people lined up to see his Mazda5 in case he didn't buy it. Pretty wild. At another of the Bommarito dealerships in February (when I bought mine), there were probably 25 or so Mazda5s, now they can't keep them in stock.

Per my friend, the Mazda5 is the only vehicle that can hold six people and qualifies for the Cash for Clunkers program due to the minimum mileage requirement.

From Automotive News, "GM, Toyota, VW boost output; Mazda is wary"
Mazda. Mazda has pulled forward some Japanese production of the Mazda3 and Mazda5 so that the U.S. market can get an immediate allocation in exchange for volume later in the year. Mazda also is ramping up production of Mazda6 four-cylinder sedans at its plant in Flat Rock, Mich.

Mazda spokesman Jeremy Barnes expressed concern that automakers might overcompensate with their production runs, leaving dealers stuck with oversupplies of 2009 models if the cash-for-clunkers fund runs out quickly.

"It's a challenge to re-spool up and get suppliers back online," Barnes said. "You can't just switch it on and off overnight, so it's a juggling act. We hoped the program was going to be brilliant, but no one knew how well the program was going to go"
