Any photographers in here?

have any of you guys tried any of these lens rental sites?

60 bucks to rent a 100-400L for a week seems like a pretty sweet deal.

No sorry I rent locally. And what kind of deposit do you have to put down with your credit card to get a lens like that? LOL.. any insurance? what if you damage it?

not sure, I was kind of wondering the same thing. It looks like insurance is dependent on the lens price... I'm not sure if there is a deposit... where do you rent from? what are the prices like?

I have rented from lensrentals.com a few times they are probably one of the best ones imo

but that price does not include the shipping costs either

I didnt bother getting insurance on the lens I rented, I rented a 400mm and a 17-55 IS

now if I was renting an expensive lens I would have gotten it for sure, I looked at renting a 500L IS and its damn expensive so I said screw it and just bought it instead :)

Just spent a month over in the UK... just a few shots... feel free to critique!

What do you guys think of these lenses for the Nikon D60?

1. Nikon DX AF-s Nikkor 18-55mm

2. Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 55-200mm

I would say just splurge a little bit more and go for the 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR lens. It will keep you from having to swap lenses. You will get vibration reduction and internal focusing mechanisms so any front filters you use work much easier.
And that lens will suit you well when you step up to a D90 or higher.

Other than that those are good inexpensive lenses.

This is one I did for a makeup artist. She's going to be in a makeup artistry book so she wanted a picture done for it. You can't find that font anywhere because it's her actual writing. We used my Wacom tablet to sign a transparent layer.

funky- very cool idea with the signature on that portrait!

siberian- since the only critique you got from those uk shots was "nice pics" i'll give you some. i think shots of signs and statues are very boring. at least the sign has to have a more interesting misspelling! way to go with the B/W. i don't think people shoot enough of it these days. shot #5 has a great story telling component. but the top of the frame is cluttered and distracting. you need to more conciously include the elements at the top of to provide context for the characters at the bottom. or just focus in more on the guys in the sand. i'd vote for the second option. the last shot also has a story telling feeling about it, but it's lacking in content. it needs a character or something else going on to make it more compelling, but the setting is there. i think shot #6 is the strongest. i'm partial to more abstract/artsy stuff but this one is great! good choice of framing, subject matter, exposure, depth of field. really focusing on shapes and textures, nice dramatic contrast of light and dark areas, and the security camera even adds a story telling aspect. keep 'em coming!

oh do those not have image stabilization? I think if you go over 200mm it's necessary.

helpful yes, necessary no

I used a sigma 500mm with a 1.4x teleconvertor for months and it was fine, now that i have a canon 500mmL IS its definitely nice to have but its not necessary by any means, especially at 200mm

agree to disagree.

funky, nice idea with the writing. I actually used my wacom tablet to make a font out of my own handwriting. it's pretty sweet. I love those things!
