i have had both cars now but im still debating on what has better handling. i find the ms3 to have more body roll than the msp bu the ms3 feels like it steers itself around a turn. let me know what you think?

On the AutoX course, they are pretty even. But at the limit and at higher speeds, the MS3 is better. Of course driver experience, car setup will give you different results. Stock to Stock, MS3 will edge out the MSP

Sorry to say buddy, The MSP is by far the Best handling Sport Compact car ever made by Mazda... no way in hell an MS3 will edge out an MSP Stock by Stock or Modified by modified...

ive ridden in my buddy ms3 and it had so much body role compared to my msp. stock for stock...msp. it feels lighter and you dont really have to put in that much effort to get it to do what you want. the ms3 is badass too, dont get me wrong but the msp does it for me.

Well, the Mazda3 was the replacement for the Protege. So, the MS3 is essentially the replacement for the Protege Speed. So, in a race on the track regardless of handling I would want the car that got around said track the fastest.

On another note, I would probably agree that the Protege was better handling as it isnt lugging 3300 lbs around.

having driven both the MSP and MS3 under heavy cornering and I may sound biased but I really feel like the Protege5 handled better than the MS3, but the MSP simply felt more confident than either MS3 or P5 in the same circuit... yeah, its way less power but the the balance of the P5 is remarkable.

MS3s only weigh around 3,100 pounds. I'm guessing MSPs are about 2,700-2,800 pounds?

msp handles like a boss. i took it through a bunch of twisty with the mazdasnw club and it was amazing. the ms3 had alot of body role and looked like it was gunna flip lol

As a former Protege owner and having driven a couple of MSPs hard, I have to admit the MSP has the slight advantage in handling. I'd chalk up a lot of that gap to weight, size, and design. Everything else being constant, a coupe/sedan should have a structural advantage over a hatch.

LOL... This is funny. Which will pull harder in the straights?

but who wants to go straight, thats a lil boring.

but obviously its sounds like im being biased but msp is def. a better handling platform for AutoX.

Now for Road Racing its up in the air, since the ms3 is a lil under 100 hp more and over 100 tq, but i def. think it would be a real close race.

Thats easy, put both of them with same amount of HP and Torque and then tell me is a close race...

So many factors involved.

never driven an MSP so I can't give my opinion. I have driven an older protege and I really liked the handling. The MSP has good potential I think to contend with the MS3.

But so far I can see that those with strong opinions are talking out of your (butt)

lol.

the answer could be found, but it would take a lot of time and track testing, with a set of rules that define "handling". The clock and a datalogger doesn't lie.

There is more to it than power, there is more to it than weight.

Without a controlled test, there are way too many variables. It's more about feelings at that point, and no offense but I don't care about your feelings. (bird) (lol2)

I've taken the MS3 to the track 6 times or so, and I can tell you in that environment the car is only half the equation. When I can blow away 500hp sports cars, and get my butt handed to me by 160hp miatas, you know there is something to the whole driver skill thing.

I'd love to get my hands on a MSP at the track, back to back with my MS3. I think it would be a fun comparo.
