Ebay Intercoolers

I've read a while back that some are good.

Capable of 400hp+.

I know a buddy that has one of his Civic and is at 442whp.

But my question is, what to look for.
What should I ask the seller?

I believe I read a while back to look for the ones with the bar, or something like that ???

Just a little lost since I've never bought one off Ebay.

Perhaps the "Bar" you're referring to is the "Bar and Plate" design as opposed to the "Tube and Fin" design.

CXRacing!!! Good quality and cheap in price!! They sell then real cheap on ebay. or look for a used treadstone or other name brand ones used. but for the cost CXRacing makes some good s***

Been talking to them.

$132 for piping, but their intercoolers are close to $100. Seen some other for $50, but not going THAT cheap on an Intercooler. Might shoot for that one.

Guy quoted me at $232 for a complete FMIC kit. Shipped!
2mm thick piping, rolled ends, couplers, t bolt clamps.

Im thinking this is TOO cheap. Stuff might start falling apart at this price (rofl)

These pipes will require some cutting and maybe an extra J or u bend

and the intercoolers.
I recommend the one with the off center inlet/outlet if you have an 03, It'll help you clear the fog lights much easier. I wish I had known that info when I ordered mine. With those two set-ups and some easy thinking about how to run the pipes you will have a FMIC for under $200

what is the actual difference between bar&plate and tube&fin...no matter what whoever sells the one bashes the other...

LOL I've seen the same thing.

But I've noticed they do differ in price.

Tube & Fin range for about $50-$60 and up...
Bar and plate range for about $60-$70 and up...

I've heard good things about them, but don't know if I want to go THAT cheap on one...

tube and fin is just the fins on the outside of the tubing, bar and plate also has the little fins on the inside, bar and plate dissipate heat much more efficiently, think spearco and thier almost 100% efficiency, meaning 200 degree in, ambient outside tempurature out.

and ebay ones are good, i had a 32x12x4 inch core that bit a curb at 15mph and still held 22psi.

I wouldn't buy another EBAY FMIC again. I had a EBAY FMIC on my 1989 Nissan Silvia w/ CA18DET. It had a bit of pressure drop, and the piping started to rust after six months. Very uncool.

I went back and forth with Jennifer from Altred Customs and she has been incredibly helpful. From what others have said, including my own experience, I have no qualms recommending her.

What exactly are EBAY FMIC? considering Ebay is just a site to sell stuff you can get a name brand Ebay intercooler...I think it would be more helpful if people posted specific brands or sellers to steer clear from. CXRacing makes a great low cost intercooler, I can't speak for there pipes but the intercooler I have is great and lasted a bad winter without ant issues. I know a CXRacing intercooler resides on the vehicle of a favorite vender as well, He's the one that told me to get one.

My Silvia had a SSAUTOCHROME intercooler. It was polished and looked good out of the box, but didn't stand up when I finally put it on the car. The replacement (a cheap Megan racing IC) had 2psi less pressure drop. On a MZP, where stock boost is only 5psi, losing 2psi is pretty hard to swallow.

then reference your wastegate from after the IC and not before and you will be fine. 2psi drop isnt great, but for your goals it is nothing to be upset about, you still have almost 10psi to go before you are out of efficiency range and the additional cooling is vastly overkill for a setup running under 10psi lol 5psi is nothing, might as well keep the stock interwarmer lol

That's all well and good, I'm just sharing my reasons for not recommending an EBAY/SSAC FMIC over Altred Customs/CustomMSP's SMIC. Any IC that rusts within 6 months screams CHEAP to me.
