motor mounts

can someone please remind me - are motor mounts (aftermarket) required for the 2009 MS3, in order to keep the engine from doing crazy crazy things? or is it just the 1st year model which had the issue.

note - I will be modding the car in the future. does that effect whether the mounts are recommended?

have a wonderful weekend with your mazdaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!! (gun)

The stock MS3 mounts just plain suck no matter which year you got. With that said, if you're asking about the motor mount recall, that only applied to 2007 models. But if you want vastly improved shifting from the tranny, you really should get at least an aftermarket rear mount. Be prepared to forgo some comfort and get increased vibration/harshness from the drivetrain if you do though.

Your stock motor mount should hold up just fine. You'll just get way better shifts if you upgrade to an aftermarket mount, though.

Some people don't like the power losses the stock motor mounts cause in teh drivetrain as well as issues some believe there is with shifting. I personally have everythign stock and while the 6 speed is a bit on the notchy-side, I've never felt it was that bad. On the other hand I'm not driving the car like I stole it all the time either. Bottom line the stock versions are perfectly safe after the recall.

Yes, stock are adequate. However, for a little $ and very little effort and time, you can make a SIGNIFICANT upgrade. If you're planning on future mods, do yourself a favor and at least upgrade the rear mount. I have the AWR 70 durometer rear mount and I was surprised at the difference it made.

I went with the Corksport motor mount inserts, and they made a huge difference. Highly recommended.

with the stock rear tranny mount, when you shift hard/fast you will most likely end up grinding your gears because the tranny has alot of room to move(because of the stock mount) Upgrading helps you put more power down to the ground and also helps with wheel hop.

dood, you sold me, that sounds awesome. just the whole phrase about how little time $ and effort, for big returns. very cool.

BUT your signature says your car is 100% stock........ eeeeeh?? how bout them rear motor mounts.

The CS inserts are good for starters, but tend to wear out in less than a year. I went with the TRZ poly dogbone. Some vibes, but will start to go away over time.

Also highly recommend the shifter bushings -- another pretty easy modification that will pay pretty big dividends.

As for 100% stock -- stock gas should be your clue.

I`ve had them for a couple of yers and loved them, but either they or the stock mount wore out because I have ridiculous driveline lash again. If my new mount ever gets here, I`ll let you know what wore out.

I have 1.7 k miles on mine and just had to take it to the dealer cause it started making grinding noise when I let off the gas around 25-35 mph. My mechanic jacked it up and zoomed it a little, the wheels and the motor were jerking around, he said it might be a broken motor mount. We'll see what the dealer says.

I am seriously considering an aftermarket motor mount (like the CPE).
I wish Mazda made a replacement one. I have only 300 miles on my 2009 MS3 and the 1st, 2nd gear shifting is just enough to be annoying even for "normal" fuel economy driving. Based on all the reading I've done on this forum, a motor mount appears to be a top fix for shifting.

Has anyone had their car warranty voided for having an aftermarket motor mount?

Even though I am perfectly capable of installing the mount myself (have done it on nonwarranty cars I have owned in the past) would it be a good idea to get a Mazda dealer to install it?

This is the only aftermarket mod I REALLY want to do badly, but don't want to void my warranty.

Dude, a quadriplegic could install this in 30 minutes including breaks to drink beer and oggle the hot co-ed across the street.

Don't ask me how a quadriplegic drinks a beer, but I digress.

Well my problem turned out to be from me putting my wheel back on incorrectly somehow after a botched CAI installation attempt. Dealer removed the front left wheel, retorqued it and the grinding noise went away.

Anyway, despite people claiming that this is easy to install or that is easy to install I'm becoming increasingly convinced that I shouldn't even open my car's hood or I'll screw something up.

Must be too much horsepower!

Same here. The Corksport is a great entry level mod. i have about thirty five thousand miles on it now and it is time to do the tighten up. But if you are not sure about whether you want the vibration or really even need a mount the inserts are your best bet i think. Maybe the best mod at the time for me. for value and more importantly the improved driving experience. That is my long winded suggestion.

I am thinking getting a Corksport Insert for my initial mod for my 2 weeks old MS3 :) it is about $35 just for the insert but if you want the whole rear mount, it costs around $100.

EDIT: just bought a blue corksport insert. cant wait to arrive. :)

Ha s*** i laughed. Thats ok to have a mechanic do it. But i bet you and a mechanically inclined friend could probably do this. I think we have a how to and i am sure you could pm us if you got stuck. just have a camera. The reason i say this is because it was one of the first mods i did on this car by myself. The instructions are reasonable also. I was very proud of my accomplishment and went on to install almost every thing else including the TBE ( with my son ) This is a great place to gain confidence. This is even easier with a full motor mount compared to inserts. if you decide you will try it we can help and again search the how tos here good luck either way.

get the trz rear / tranny mount package from pg. best $180 you can spend. wheel hop is way down and haven't missed 3rd since.

Dangitalltoheck... I have noticed that 3rd gear grind under heavy acceleration ever since I bought the car. Was wondering if the rear motor mount would solve the issue, but thought maybe the tranny mount(s) needed upgrading, too. Was going to post a thread to ask.

Thanks for saving me the trouble. I think I know what my next mods will be.
