trz tranny mount

so ya one trz tranny mount broken gonna try it again lol, anyone else break this mount yet besides me?

What exactly were you doing to break this mount?! Did it completely fail and drop your tranny, or did it "start" to fail and you noticed it?

so ya the bushing completely fell through causing the trans to drop, just put a stock one back in so i can at least drive it, ill post pics in a bit

Was the washer installed on top? If it was installed on top, it is physically impossible for it to drop through.

+1 on the washer comment. tranny would drop less than 1/2 inch if the bushing dropped.

come to think of it, i don't see how the bushing would fall w/ the washer in place. the washer rests on top of the metal part of the mount.

looks like a sandwich - washer and metal mount are the bread slices and the bushing is the lamb and tuna fish.

this is the first one reported as a failure, out of hundreds sold to date.

i'll take this on the nose because we should have - and didn't - put notices in with the mounts as to the orientation of the bushing and the washer. the washer is larger than the diameter of the hole and the bushing, so if it were installed on top of the bushing under the bolt there is no way even if the bushing tore for the bolt to drop. TRZ flat out told us if the washer(s) were not on top, the bushing would drop through.

so, i'll send out notices with all the new mounts making this point clear. and of course conso will get a free replacement.

Yep the washer is there as a fail safe. If you install it properly with the big fat steel washer on the top there is no chance in hell it can fall out. That is the whole idea behind the design. If the bushing were to fail for some ungodly reason the washer would catch the driveline and save it from falling. You might get a clunk noise , but your driveline will not be on the floor. If your trans is on the floor its because you installed it wrong. The mount didnt break... You broke it ! Without the washer on the top to compress the bushing head and offer its drop out safety this is what you have.... You have the weight of you entire driveline hanging from a small piece of polyurethane. Since the stock bolt head/washers are so small it can and will get pulled right through the bushing. So again, no big washer or a misplaced washer = fail. I do agree that this should be noted when you buy the product, but at the same time one would think people would know better.

it was installed correctly cause theres only ONE way this thing fits snuggly, i see what u guys are saying but it really did pull it right through lol, it only dropped about an inch but it was enough to make a hell of loud noise o well theres always one bad banana in the bunch

that would explain it, and if you didn't get one thats my fault 100%. i'm happier in a sense knowing this was the case and not the design failing.

Agreed. Sorry for your experience but at least we know the part itself was not at fault and there is no quality issue.... As always with TRZ. Either way you will be taken care of. I think your mount frame itself is 100% fine. All you need is a new bushing and a washer. Then slap that b**** back together ! That is for KEN to decide though. I just dont think a full mount replacement is needed.

Not really. To have the engine literally on the floor, yes. I have seen several cars with trans mount failures that dropped the driveline so hard that it messed up the half shaft and tore up the differential due to the hard angle of the shaft into the trans. A trans moun failure can cause huge damage. Thas why we need quality upgrades like this.

Also agreed.... The customer is always right !! I didnt mean to sound like the OP was not worthy of a whole new mount or anything like that. I just wanted to offer the quickest possible fix for him. It may be best to let TRZ take a look at it though. It surely cant hurt.
