Finally have a MS3

I recently (two days ago) traded in my 2006 Mazda 3 HB Sport for a 2009 MS3 Sport Metro Grey - it's wonderful!
Back in 2007 when I picked up the 2006 Mazda 3, I had really wanted an MS3 that were just available at the time, but unfortunately were out of my price range then, so it's great to finally be able to get the fast 3 model.(drive2)

One thing on the old 2006 3 that was cool, was the trip computer that was only available on the GT trim, is unlockable (holding down AM/FM and CD from key off to acc). This unlock procedure does not seem to work on the 2009 MS3 CD Player HU (mine is not a multidisc HU) even though the LCD shows the outline for trip functions.

Does anyone know of an unlock/hack procedure?
I've heard of OBDII trip computers - any recommendations?

I have done some searching on this but can't seem to find anyone that has done this successfully on a 2009 model.

Anyways, I'm a late arrival to the MS3 owner's group, so I have a lot reading to do here in the MS3 forum.

No can do on the unlock. That trick only worked for the '07 Sport IIRC (maybe some '08s).

welcome and congrats. MetroGrayMica is the best color...the only color. good taste welcome to the MS3 community and MGM family

now its time for an intake and bov/bpv

welcome...it was better you waited till you got the 09 model year anyway, lots of bugs worked out since it began its run in 2007

Thanks for the welcome to y'all, I've certainly found a wealth of info on this forum.
When first checking out the MS3 (mazdausa online site) color choices the order of preference was red, white, black, and gray. Once I saw the gray color on the car - that became the one to get!
Funny thing about purchasing the car was that the salesman also recommended getting a CAI from the (inflated $) parts dept. lol
I'd thought the MS3 had a BOV already? Not sure what a BPV yet is - time for more reading...

i was thinking of getting a black ms3(typical) then i saw the MGM and at the point i didnt care for the other colors anymore.

i was set on MGM

Welcome to the forums, from one '09 MS3 Sport MetroGreyMica owner to another. Like you, I found that the online pics didn't do the MGM color justice. Much nicer when I saw it in person.

Oh, and a BPV is a Bypass Valve. That's what we have in stock configuration. The difference between Blowoff Valve & Bypass Valve is that a blowoff vents to atmosphere. Bypass routes the pressure back into the intake- after the MAF sensor, but before the turbo) so as not to undo all the fancy math between the MAF sensor, ECU, TPS sensor, and final A/F ratios in the cylinders, as well as equalizing the pressure before & after the turbo so there are no spikes that can damage the turbocharger. Some of the aftermarket valves out there are hybrids, meaning they can be configured either way.

This Wiki article calls a BPV a CBV (Compressor Bypass Valve), but it's the same animal. Main point of the article is BOV's, and a quick read.
