PG K04 or GT3071R

Hey Guys, I have been back n forth with this one. A little history on my issue. My stocker seal went bad, hence smoking at idle. I purchased PG K04 and smoking still occurred, but gradually. Both Turbos had oil leakage between the oil pipe line and compressor housing, hence seals or something in the turbo was bad. Therefore, I am now faced with the decision on getting another PG K04 or jumping on a GT3071R. I want to know what you guys think? Thanks.

cause there are no big turbo cars running an ap.
AND because if you're not running any tuning solution, why you'll be as krazey as phil

OK. So just curious. Even with FP upgrade, (Uego wideband & Boost gauge) to monitor levels, & FMIC/TBE (support airflow), there is no way you can run a GT3071R (not tuned) safely without your car going boom?

Pretty much every big turbo car with a stock bottom end blows up. If you dont have the funds for a new motor, stick with the PG k04.

I can invest the money for tuning and keep the new PG K04 coming my way! Which tuning software is worth getting for the speed3? Any suggestion fellas?

even with tuning, youll want to to get pistons and rods and the full 9 yards and build ur motor, acuse with the tuning, running lean in our cars is inevitable at higher rpms

Why would I want to spend money now on pistons, rods, etc.? I will be looking to be around 330whp to 340whp tops. The threshold on the stock bottom end of the MS3 I heard was 350!!! I plan to run the car at a safe PSI/AFR to keep the ride reliable.

then just get the cpe standback, find a shop that knows how to legitimatelly tune the DISI in our cars... because i know we have a problem running lean, so id find a gooood shop that has background with our cars, cause even 330-340 is pushing it with stock internals

What you hear and what is reality don't always coincide. The reason everyone is telling you to build up your bottom end now is because we don't want to have to go through another thread titled: "OMFG, motor just blew up!"

Every motor has a tolerance threshold, it may be that most can withstand 350 but do you really want to find out that yours doesn't?

You gotta pay if you wanna play, it's that simple. If I were in your shoes, I'd just swap in a new PG K04 and be done because that's what you had all along. If you really wanted to go big turbo, you would have invested in the block already.

Good luck

Sounds fair... But no tune?

OHH MY GOD NOOOO! If you have to ask that question, this is bad news. (boom05)

Don't take me wrong, I don't want to come across like a dick, but 16psi with a stock setup is fine, then if you run 16psi with another completely different setup you can still blow your car up. You gotta tune it man. Doesn't have to be a standback, or whatever the brand name is, but it does need a tune.

Good luck.

And with all of my turbo car's i've always ran Garrett turbo's and never had an issue. They are IMHO the best.

Again goodluck and i'm currently running a GT2871r on my sr20 build, wish I went with the 3071.

Txs for the info. I am just wanting to know now, which tuning software would be best for the MS3? Any suggestion guys?

Just doing a search on google I really only found the CPE standback. It's full standalone engine management system. Which is what I would go with, don't waste your money on other pieces that wont be usable as you get further and further into your modding.

It's too bad that AEM doesn't make a full stand alone, but other than that you're looking at simple a/f computers.
