RX-8 drinking oil?

Ok. Well car goes into the shop tomorrow. Guess I gotta tell her to run out 2nd gear more often or something. I told her to get a 2door S70... but she wanted the RX-8.

I can't trust my wife to do that. I will drive the car, from time to time, to do it for her.

I just wanted to echo what others have said...(gossip)

With the rotary being oil injected, it is definitely required that you check the oil maybe every other time you get gas.

Waiting till the oil light is on is not good for the motor, because by that time the oil is over a quart low.

Also the rotary needs to see that redline once in a while, (but not if your oil is a quart low).

The best thing to do would be to make sure mom knows where the oil dipstick is, how to read the dipstick, and keep an extra quart of dino in a ziplock bag with a rag in the trunk.

I have always wondered why Mazda engineers did not add an oil resivoir to the car. The resivoir would have a sensor on it so that if it was low on oil, there would be a warning light to add oil. I would rather run the resivoir low than the engine low on oil.(uhm)

How u plan to sell thousands of cars to normal every day people and WOMEN that u have to continuously check the oil in.. u cant WHY.. because the american public is to damn lazy..

Not only that but it is writen in almost ever car manufacture to check your oil at gas fillups (that is how it was back in the day of full service) they would fill the car of gas, wash the window and check your oil..

If it was still like that then u would never need to worry about that because in a perfect world u are taught to check your oil at fillups..

i think the difference between a car owner and a gear head strikes me as kind of funny and really sad at the same time. at any given time, i can tell you how many miles both cars and my work truck have and that is normal to me. i find it outrageous that she has no concept whatsoever of how many miles her car has on it, but she finds it completely outrageous that i expect her to keep up with her mileage.

it's the same kind of thing with oil. when you obsess about your car, you can remember the mileage that your oil got changed last and you can remember to keep up with your oil level. that's something that can't really be taught, though. i have just always been obsessed with cars.

also, 100% true with the taching it out. it says 9k on the dash for a reason. the renny engine needs to be taken that high 1-2 times per drive.

exactly

mazda had it right with the FD, they just didn't follow through properly with marketing

the FD was a sports car with a semi high price tag....it was wanted by the public and sold great! but they didn't tell them about the responsibility that came along with owning a rotary, despite the fact that people would have been much more open to that responsibility if they are spending that kind of money on a car (if you pay civic prices you expect civic responsibility levels basically)

because of this the FD got bad reviews in the reliability department and that's probably why we don't see any new twin turbo rotaries on the market =(

now they are trying to market the rx8 at a lower price range to the average consumer....which it's not practical to say 'spend speed3 prices and take on twice the responsibility', it just doesn't sell...they need to make another twin turbo rotary, jack up the price of the car as a true 'sports' car, and make it clear that you have to maintain it...

Ok guys, sry not to update.
Got the oil changed. Everything is good. Took the car out today for a nice sunday drive. Did have a few fun tail out experiences that I don't get in my car. I wish I had a little rear wheel drive screamer like the RX-8. But thanks to this little "issue"... Looks like i'll have more fun tail waggin adventures in the future now

haha. My speed3 isn't even special enough for me to buy redline yet, so the RX-8 aint getting it either!

Although, I think i'm getting the Redline tranny fluid for the speed. But the RX-8 is staying on dino oil... b/c I don't pay for it, nor is it 'my' car.

OY! I'm a woman! There are some of us females that know what we're doing. Granted I'm not your typical woman since I work on my own cars but I had to put that out there. And I own an RX-8! And I redline it! And I feed it lots and lots of oil on a regular basis! Haha.

Please don't misunderstand what I put, it was not being sexes.. There are many females who are the "exception to the rule" but most women and yes most men especially in the great USA are to damn stupid or to damn lazy to do something like that.. plus almost everyone (even thouse who premix) b**** about the mess (I have no mess)

so that was my statement.

Ha, I wasn't misunderstanding you, I know what you mean. It's all good!!(drinks)

when i got my RX8 the senior tech at mazda gave me a little peice of info when i asked him about the oil. depending upon the model year, the 8 will have different size oil metering jets, and also depending upon model year or ECU/PCM flash, how much is metered through those jets.

06 and up RX8's will use more oil than thier 04 and some 05 cousins...which is what i have an 04, because that was after mazda figured out the rotary needed more oil....

and dont use synthetic, it doesnt burn off as well as the dino crap.

i also use about a quart by every oil change
