so i played with my stock air box, removed all the routing leading up to it, and place a whole in the box. i did feel a difference removing the routing, but nothing really to impressive. next is the drop in K&N filter, who has done that, and is it going to make a difference?

even a cai isnt gonna yield a noticeable difference in my eyes. if u get a cai along with an header and exhaust, then u should notice a slight difference. i really dont beat my car though so i havent noticed a difference in anything that I have done yet, but needless to say i would do it all over again
eh, ill pass with that one. it rains to much down here, and also i live on a gravel road thats like a mile long.
dont worry to much about the rain issue, unless u are submerged in a puddle for a period of time while at a decently high rpm u shouldnt have an issue. not to mention the p5 hides the filter pretty damn well, in my last car the filter was behind the driver side wheel and could actually be seen from outside the car, nothing to cover it at all. one time i was driving in a down pour and when i got home i felt the filter to see how it was...the thing was dripping of water, but i drove at a low rpm the entire way and anytime i drove through a puddle i just left it in neutral. im not saying hydro-lock is impossible, just unlikely.

but yea ive done the custom cold ram air with the KN filter. Little bit of the CAI/RAM hissing sound once u pass 2500 on highway.
(cut the grille so that air that passes thru grille will go up towards the inlet, cause the grille covers that part.)
yea there isnt gona be any feel in the lower rpms but the cai does help in high end.but i dont think anyone redlines every gear, just to feel the hp gain?....thats just rice and a waste of gas.

yeah i put that K&N sticker on there, and i swear i got 300 whp now... on a N/A engine.
so in all honesty i didnt really feel much of a difference, maybe a very slight in the high rpms but nothing to really talk about. maybe better gas milage, i hope

I have the K&N typhoon cai on mine...it sounds cool and there is a little difference in hp...but honestly the money i spent on that was not worth it. A friend of mine built his cai out of PVC...ghetto I know but he had no cash. It actually worked really well. He was going to UTI at the time and he tested it against a couple of more expensive CAI's and the PVC yeilded more gains. My point is don't buy the expensive one haha. EBAY works great. And as for not wanting gravel and all hitting it...lliving in florida i always worry about rain and all sneaking in, so i removed one of the tubes and basically made it into a short ram type of setup.
True and false. I guess it really depends on your situation. A CAI alone IMO is not worth the money. No 'real' gains there. But if you modding the s*** out of your car, you have to have one. If you upgrade your intercooler, exhaust mani, downpipe, test pipe, and catback but leave a stock intake, adding a CAI then would add substantial power gains.
But this being said, if your fully bolted, and you have home made PVC intake, I'd say rip that s*** out of there, and buy a reputable intake. They are designed to have proper airflow...

also depends on the weather in your area. a CAI works the same down here in TX as a SRI does. if you take a thermometer and measure the temp of air where it would enter into a CAI, then measure the temp of air where it would go into a SRI, there is no real difference. hence the term "cold-air" intake is null in my part. it also rains a whole lot during the winter, so they have been dubbed "straws" cuz a lot of cars seem to get water logged with CAIs down here. thats mostly cuz stupid ppl drive them through deep standing water tho.
