fabricated an iPod touch holder *pics*

for less than $2 i fabricated a mount for my iPod touch using an old cell phone cigarette charger (fuse removed), some plumbing pieces, and a plastic piece that i had no idea where it came from, but ended up being a perfect sort of holder for the iPod. at first it slid on slight turns, then i glued some paper clips to hold the iPod in place better.

could use some black spray paint, and it doesn't look like anything out of a box, but considering the same kind of piece cost $50 at a MAC store, i think i made a wise decision.

ps...sorry for cell phone pics

oh my...were you in prison man? because thats prison thriftiness right there

I think thats sweet, especially when you tell the ladies you picked up that you made it.........(butthump)

looks good get it painted for sure. Also how are you running the IPOD to the radio what hookup are you using. I thought about getting a FM transmitter but some suck and some are good!

running a wire straight to the auxilery input in the center consul...i would like to run it under all that center stuff and back out through the ash tray so there would only be a few inches of wire showing and it wouldn't be getting in the way, but alas i have not taken the time or energy to do so.

and btw...i did get it painted today so the whole thing is black and there's no superglue residue leftover. and it really is the most ghetto thing EVAR

I did something similar for my Sirius radio. I ran an audio cable from the back of it (I which I built into my lower dash) and ran it under the center console, into the glove box. It worked out really well. Just make sure you get some of those cable keepers (sticky on one side, loop or hook type thing on the other) and keep the wires out of the way of your shifting components.

Off topic - Akaveli, who is in your avatar? Is that Misa Campo?

nice work macguyver. i just use that little slot next to the shifter or the cup holder to hold mine

I do the same thing, works great.

"Dear MacGyver, enclosed is a rubber band, paper clip, and drinking straw. Please save my dog."

how much is the one that is actually made for the ipod touch.. just wondering..

i said $50 at an actual mac store in my original post...but if someone else said $20-30 someplace else i can believe that too. going to the mac store to get one is like going to the dealer for an OEM part that you can get someplace else for cheaper

i used to use that part (empty for non-nav, controls for nav) for my older iPod, or iPod classic if you will. but when i put my iPod touch in that same cubby area the accelerometer would make it go sideways during music play, and that screen you can't simply skip to the next track because it shows album covers. and because of this i would have to keep picking it up, wait for it to go back to the screen with the next song arrows, and then put it back down. so making this thing was a simple no-brainer for me.

maybe i should make a bunch and do group buys and stuff...haha. it's so ghetto i bet no one would buy it anyway
