Well I called my local 'Baru dealership and they arn't offering $6k off. I don't know where that's posted anywhere. They're honoring the 0%, but no one has a clue what i'm talking about with the $6k off.

My Subaru/Mazda dealership doesnt have it listed as one of their specials either.

one of my local dealerships says on there website, Up to $5,000 Off MSRP on 08 STi's. Contact Us TODAY and reserve yours.

decisions...

check the links on page 1, print them out, bring them to your dealers?
it is a nationwide clearance on 08 sti's.

i have 2 dealerships offer me 29.995 already, i just havent had time to drive over there yet.

sherman oaks, CA and Carlsbad, CA are the 2 dealerships that have responded back to me.

Well I went to the dealership and drove one. It was nice, but I'd rather keep my car, honestly. I enjoy my car more thoroughly, and there's just more electronics than I'd want to worry about in the car. The Hill Assist is really nice though.

I looked all over the webpage and I see zero on $6k off STI's, and the dealership knew nothing of it.

some dealerships are holding back, san bernardino offered me one for 32,995, i laughed at them. seems if you can do the drive, sherman oaks, and that avondale, AZ ones are no hassle ~30k right off the bat.

If someone could show me on the subaru website where that $6k offer is, i'd love to see it. Maybe it honestly is a regional offer only.

from the 2nd page, here's the info i got

"the reason Edmunds doesnt have this info yet is because the incentives were released today at 1pm central. this is fresh information - the reason theyre offering 7k off MSRP (4k under absolute cost) is because subaru is offering 6k incentives to dealers selling 2 or more STis this month. they can move their inventory quickly by passing along every dollar SoA is giving them, similar to the nissan deal of august"

it's not going to be on the subaru site, the dealerships have the choice of offering that 6k they are going to get to the customer OR give you anything up to 6k off or nothing at all if they want to keep the profits.

someone posted this from several seattle dealerships

From the email I received:
"Subaru has put some very interesting incentives out to the dealerships. This week we are offering out these specials:

2008 Subaru STI - $3700 BELOW invoice!!!!!"

invoice on a base sti is right at 33.7
so 3700 off is the 29,995 we're seeing advertised

from a user on another forum
"I work for a Subaru Dealer in the Midwest and this is one of the best incentives Subaru has ever had on the STi. Dealers advertising 7,000 off are taking a gamble they can sell quite of few of their STi inventory. Dealers with only one or two of these cars will not be able to match the deal. We have to sell 2-5 to get any of the dealer incentives Subaru is offering right now"

Probably a damn good reason they would let those STI's go for so cheap and if you think it's just to make room for the 09's I feel sorry for you. They stayed on the f'n lot for a reason.

yeah, because they were almost 40k. in case we are to infer that your response is to cucamelsmd15's post- the car is no more or less susceptible to failure than what we have. for every person who has issues, several thousand don't. that doesn't even factor in the unmodified crowd or the fact that the car is unforgiving to its drivetrain with awd. yes, they had identified a bearing issue that could be an issue in some of them, but so did bmw when it first released the e46 m3 and many other mass production performance cars (except honda, but they had their fair share of 3rd gear issues with their 6 speed transmissions). if the car was <30k from the get go, there would be none left. it had 98% to do with price, and 2% to do with people scaring themselves out of a purchase from reading internet forums.

Uh, yes, actually it is.

You see, the problem is that when the 07 STI came out, Subaru in their wisdom decided to include the open loop/closed loop delay for emissions purposes. What this results in is lean conditions through peak torque and peak boost. Since the boxer configuration is so great at dispersing heat [/sarcasm], what you essentially wind up with is superheated pistons/rings, which are then cooled by a deluge of fuel as the AFR drops from the mid 13's to low 10's/high 9's. The repeated heat cycling of the rings plus uncontrolled detonation during peak torque/boost has lead to numerous failures on stock cars, not to mention cars that were modified but spend considerable amounts of time on the stock tune. Nothing was done in 2007 to correct these problems. I know firsthand of at least 4 2007 STI's that are stock that all had the same problem.

But, it doesnt stop there. In 2008 models, not only did Subaru retain the OL/CL delay, they botched the high RPM tuning as well. The 2008 STI has a redline 300rpm lower than the 2007, but the ECU logic was modified so that the "rev limit-fuel resume" parameter only replied to the rev limit, whereas it applies to rev limit and boost conditions in all previous models.

Example:
2007 STI bangs it off the limiter in any given gear. Rev limit is set at 7100rpm with a resume of 7000rpm. Revs hit 7100rpm and fuel cuts and revs fall to 7000rpm. Fuel doesnt resume because boost hasnt fallen below 9.7psi as specified in the ECU logic. It does this at say, 6900rpm and fueling resumes. Rinse, repeat. By dropping the boost, it ensures that there is no lean condition in the cylinder when fueling resumes from too much left over air.

2008 STI does the same thing with the rev limit set at 6800rpm with a resume of 6700rpm. Revs hit 6800rpm and fuel cuts, but resumes at 6700rpm while the manifold pressure is still above 9.7psi. In this event, it results in a lean condition and potentially knock. Rinse, repeat, crack ringland.

I know of no fewer than 5 2008's in my local area with this problem. 4 were stock, one was modified but spent 10k on the stock tune.

Now, if anyone wants to pony up the stock map for a MS3, Ill be more than happy to take a look at it. I guarantee that it doesnt have these issues though, as there are plenty of people, stock and otherwise, that arent having these types of failures.
