motortrend tests the 09 wrx...

Having just purchased my Speed3 last week (knowing full and well of the upcoming 09 WRX) I can say that I don't regret the Speed3, but at this point I better never drive an 09 WRX!

I think it will be interesting to see how the powertrain holds up to the new gains (I'm sure it will be fine though, but you never know..)

its all good peeps... why not just get a good used 02-07 model WRX/STi and hold onto your current MS3? I'm thinking of going that route late next year if at all lol... maybe pick up an EVO at that...

possibilities are endless. =)

Buy the 09 WRX and 2 years or less later something else "better" will come out. It's a never ending cycle and you'll never be satisfied.

I've got a good friend who's thinking about buying one. If/when he does, he's gonna let me beat on it. I'll report back

"good used 02-07 model WRX/STi " Thats a paradox. . .

You neva know... there is always that slim chance that some owner took very care of his/her WRX/STi; never raced or beat on it; and just so happened to have left it stock. It's doing the researching that'll kill ya(maybe)..lol but I think it'd be worth it. Be it the Evo VIII/IX or STi/WRX.

SwampAss, we'll be waiting on your full 5 page report!! (yippy)

Yeah good deals are out there but its risky business. People selling the car are not going to tell you they raced it, so its hard for you to know. Just find an old grandma selling a stock evo :).

I just started to pay attention to this thread. And I am alittle dissapointed in a lot of you. The NEW wrx was an excellent response by Subaru owners complaints about the interior and lack of performance. And damn good for them I say. I certainly respect the car. But I bought the MazdaSpeed 3 for its design and performance. I will keep this car till i die. And I am delighted every time i get in and go. The Mazda Engineering group did a nice job on this and some such as Road and Track consider it a bit of a benchmark. Of course now the stupid Cobalt is a better handling car and faster but I think the Mazda is a very nice piece all in all and pushed the other manufacturers to keep up or exceed our value and performance. Just my opinion

lol

yeah I see what you mean, carfax carfax carfax...then a test drive to your local trust worthy mechanic, unless you know what to look for.... but of course, it'd be the s*** to find a granny into the performances of these things!

I see your point, and I agree witcha as well. I love my MS3; however if I don't have to limit myself to just this car, I'd def. look into buying an 04-07 WRX/STi in near excellent condition just so I can have the best of both worlds. (spin)

That would still be pretty damn expensive after you factor in insurance, maintence, etc..Oh and good luck finding one in near excellent condition.

This is what I'd be most worried about really...(eekdance) (shrug)(hear ya)

I have a couple of cars and do not drive MazdaSpeed3 during winter. So I can appreciate having different drivetrains. I am also looking at all wheel drives. just on the cheap. Not only for winters, but we have wild seasonal gravel or dirt roads that are open during summer months for even more driving fun.

Suby enthusiasts <? will find ways to make the exterior more appealing. Just look at the current cosworth sti, its pretty badass looking, especially in person. As for the interior, it looks like the gave the driver 70% of the width of the car lol. Should be a good competitor though.

One thing to take into consideration is fuel efficiency. My old normally aspirated 01 Impreza RS used to get an avg of 23 mpg. My MS3 gets an average of 24 mpg and has twice the power.

Subaru’s are great cars. I loved my Impreza RS. But Subaru aren't known for being very fuel efficient cars and the AWD adds to this. You'll be lucky if you get a combined mileage of 20-22mpg. The 09 Wrx is rated at 18/25.

you are buying a high performance sport compact...you do not buy the for the mpg.

with my wrx i got 10-12 mpg but it was completely worth it.

if i cared about that rating at all i would buy a prius.
