gas mileage is blah

I wish everyone would use this site

www.fueleconomy.gov The track section is under calculate and share your millage.

I use it to track my mileage. I just write down my Tripometer each tank, and enter the info in their system after I get home.

There are only 7 MS3s that track on that site. I am the only one from WA that does it. I'm averaging about 26mpg in mine right now, that that's about 64/36 (city/highway) driving.

I'd recommend that more of us use the site, to build it up and keep better track for the community. It's really a great site, and would be better served if more people added to it.

E30, E36, E46, or E90?

E90. It's from Top Gear. Basically, driving a Prius at its maximum is less efficient than driving an E90 M3 economically. They just wanted to show that it's how you drive, not what you drive.

if i get my oil changed on time whuch i do i get 260 but when it goes over i get 230 and thats all city and i shift between 3000 annd 4000. But when i boost it up i get 225 230 but still good for how much power the car has. But if you cant take it you can always get a bike!!

Hay guys i am also in the alpharetta so you guys should pm me so me could meet up some time for lunch or something

RPM has little to do with it. It would have more of a correlation if our cars weren't turbocharged, but that's not the case. Basically, you can shift at 4,000 in vacuum and still have it be more efficient than shifting at 2500 and 10 lbs of boost.

That makes a lot of sense actually. Good point!!

Also, this helps with winter driving too. Higher rpms with less torque versus lower gear but using boost/torque to pass or manuever in the slippery stuff!

my car's trip says my average mpg is 29

You can disregard that. Figure it the old-fashioned way.

Seems that every manufacturer's onboard computers overestimate fuel economy. I think they do this on purpose to fool people into thinking their cars are more economical than they really are. Kind of like when the government tells us all that borrowing a trillion dollars from Red China & giving it to the banking industry will help keep Joe Sixpack from going into foreclosure. They know it's a lie, but if they repeat it often enough, it will become truth in the eyes of the masses.

I consistently get about 20-22 mpg depending on the type of driving I do (which is mostly city).

Trip computer says 24 mpg, and I do not hesitate to turn gas into fun factor.
I've heard that the computer is off so say 22mpg or so with 50/50 city/highway driving.

Quick! Someone write a howto for making the trip computer report 2 MPG less than it wants to!

my trip stays about 29-30 in summer around town and around 27-28 in winter. On the highway or trying to milk the car the trip computer has read up to 37mpg. It reads high but I can still easily get over 300 miles until the light comes on. Its all in the driving habit... If you drive like you are constantly racing everyone, then you will get s*** mileage (and look like an ass).

Trip computer says 20.4.

That really means I'm getting about 17-18 MPG. I don't pussy foot this thing, I drive it like it was meant to be driven.

AMEN. I only get 20+ because well traffic wont let me, but as soon as I get some bolt ons and start racing...hehehe different story. (first)

wont mods help out with mileage?

ive heard time and time again better intake and exhaust, holding all else constant will improve your mileage.
