Mitsubishi UK has given the green light for a street-going FQ400 following a successful campaign at the recent Britcar 24hr race at Silverstone by ADR Motorsport - the team which already builds and runs the two-works Mitsubishis currently competing in the British Rally Championship.

According to AutoExpress, the 400hp flagship EVO X will hit the UK market some time next year at a price of at least 45,000. No engine details have been given but AE loosely speculates a larger turbo, exhaust manifold, fuel system and of course heavy ECU tweaking would be necessary to achieve the 400hp the FQ name indicates.

The all-wheel-drive FQ400 would slice through 60mph in 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed over 170mph. Like previous FQ generations, an upgraded suspension, brakes and subtle exterior modifications would distinguish the package.

Are they dropping a new engine in there or just tuning the base evo ? This model would be like over 10k more than the normal evo. I think I could do much better with 10k and a stock evo but it still looks like a mean ride. If it came with a good warranty it would be worth it though :).

Edit: Just saw the "no info about engine." Looks like its just going to be tuned. Doesn't the suby STI have a tuned model in the UK that cranks out around 400 ?

Question: Isn't the Evo X stupidly fast enough?!? Secondly: How many people are going to want to drive a $45,000 Lancer -- Sure it's faster than a bat outta hell but if they dont improve the interior on it, i don't see many people biting on this

i would drive the crap out of it if it had a good warranty, i wouldnt do a single mod to it.

I would guess they tune them to order. After all they are only modded evos. The 45,000 was in pounds too. . . with todays dollar value that would be a TON of money. Definately not worth it. According to google (no idea how accurate) thats like $70K . . . That cant be right.

I don't see them doing direct currency, i was figuring they would charge about 10G more than a base Evo

even still, if you bought a base evo X and put 10k of mods into it would you get more or less than spending the same chunk of change on the FQ??

I would think with 10K I could do better safely. Just do most of the bolt ons with a full exhaust and drop a nice turbo in there. Touch up the boost and get a good tune and you should be around 400 whp with $$ to spare. You could use that to beef up the internals but thats a bit more risky. I dont know though, its hard to debate when we dont know the price. 45,000 pounds would be over 70K US which couldn't be right. Who knows what they did to the interior though. Could be gold plated !

or could be just as ugly and bad as the base evo

Warranty tho...peace of mind

well i guess if you don't have the knowledge warranty is a good thing to have. i honestly believe you could get more HP with 5k and you could save 5K to pay for repairs....peace of mind. my point being, you will get ripped off paying for a "dealer modified" car. not to mention that some of the stuff they might put on there will be crap anyway.

"or could be just as ugly and bad as the base evo"

haha your most likely right. Im not a fan of the X's exterior but knowing mitsu they prob kept the interior simple and light. Maybe added some extra carbon fiber.

It cool and all but I would just go to BMW and buy a 135i for around high 30s and install performance exhaust, intake, downpipes, BOV, and software and I'll be at 400hp.

true true, an exhuast for one of those things goes for almost $2000 tho, maybe more. intake has to be a twin also $$$. might as well get a smart car and put that 'busa engine in it...lol

2 gs for an exhaust? I do not think so. I sell performance BMW parts. It might be atleast a grand.
