Full TBE / how safe?

I'm in the market to getting a full turbo back exhaust. I'm definitely wanting that big bang for your buck but how safe is it for your car? i'm so paranoid that after i put it on the car, something will go boom and with the TBE, it will definitely void the warranty? what is some of the extremes that could happen? how safe are these odds?

a TBE alone, by all rights, should not blow the engine. there is a good chance your turbo is going to start smoking and burning up a little oil, a search of the forums will net you that information in spades.

that said, a dealer local to me warrantied a customer's turbo despite having a full TBE, a cobb stage 2 reflash, an intake, blow off valve and engine mount. it really depends on the dealership, how you treat them, etc.

How does one develop a good relationship with a dealership when you do your own maintainance such as oil changes? What do some of you guys do to develop this relationship?

Get your kneepads ready! :D

Really, pretty much the only thing that comes between you and your warranty is the service manager. If he wants to be a dickhead, you won't get it. It's not easy when you do all of the maintenance yourself and all you do is show up for warranty issues. They see you coming a mile away. My attitude is that I have the right to do maintenance on my own car so, STFU, do your job and fix the problem, but you can't let them know that's your attitude. When they see you're not coming in for $50 oil changes and $300 "24k mile checkups", it raises an eyebrow.

I'd love to put a full TBE on mine but I'm going to wait until the warranty is up because I got an idea of how my dealership would act when they gave me a hard time getting the stereo replaced for the 34-35 volume issue when they saw a power wire for a sub I hadn't completely installed yet. (for that very reason mind you)

actually a nice TBE is the safest and most reliable way to make power on a turbo car. the only warranty it will void is your exhaust warranty. Go for it! you wont regret it.

^ In theory a TBE is the safest, but maybe not for the MS3? Especially with the guarantee it will start smoking and burning up oil, and potentially ruin your turbo? I don't think it'd be worth the risk.

well i've already gotten my turbo changed once cause mine was malfunctioning. i'm just hoping that i dont fall into the category that the turbo is more prone to smoke if a TBE is installed. On my GTI, i pretty much went tuning happy and never had problems with the turbo. I wish it was the same for the speed. I just don't want any type of car troubles.

????

I have heard people getting denied warranty work for just an intake or blow off valve, and there are certainly people with blown seals who get denied for TBEs. Where have you heard and what do you mean by "just voiding exhaust warranty"??

dont get the full TBE, get the DP/RP combo -- keep the stock CBE, spend your $600 that you would have spent on the CBE on something thats gonna give u more bang 4 the buck.... thats just my 2 cents though....

Talk to your service writer, he will tell you where he stands. and where you stand with Mazda. Turbo back is for all out performance. Some say spend the the money on the bang. If you do not run your car hard or track it abit, the tbe or big IC and such will not make you happy imo. The mid pipe is a nice upgrade without alot of trouble or cost. You will like the sound I think.

$600 is almost an AP or a TMIC upgrade!!! :D

I am obsessed with sound (of course, I am a music teacher) but think adding a CBE would be way too loud. the dp/rp combo is great though! Def get it!

i just installed a midpipe today, and I haven't really had much of a chance to drive with it to see the performance gains (it started raining right soon after I got it installed), but from what I can tell for $150 its pretty decent and the subtle change in the exhaust note is nice imo.

start with the midpipe, see how you like it....if its not enough performance for you (I will most likely be craving more power in about 3 weeks so hopefully I can gather enough funds for a DP @ that point). If your happy leave it, if not go with the DP next. If thats not enough go with maybe the Cobb AP or save up some more for an IC upgrade ...TMIC or FMIC (you can decide which you want -- I don't want to start that debate here). And if you haven't upgraded your BPV yet, you might want to consider doing that too....

so yea a good plan of action would be start with the MP and go from there....

i thin uppgraded tmic and testpipe is safer than tbe easy to remove if needed(dealer visits) removing dp for dealer visists good luck with that....
