Just spent 3.5 hours tuning with Steve. I'm very happy with how the car is running. There are still some minor tweaks to make it a little better but theres always room for improvement.
The car feels quite strong and VE is holding up nicely at high rpm, which means im still making power! Only pushed it to 6500rpm today. I'll get the 400 mile oil change done soon with Amsoil.
I'm working on getting a video camera. I'll try to get a idle with a couple revs video and a driveby video. The car sounds incredible at high rpm. I'm looking for places to dyno right now.....

Look like ther is a mustang dyno 30 min from my house 3 pulls for 70 bucks.
Or i could drive to Milwukee or Madison (90 min) and pay more ~$100 for a dynojet or dynodynamics
From my understanding dynojets and dyno dynamics give similar (higher) numbers and a mustang dyno is more stingy.
Looking for opnions...

I may save the dyno tuning for a later date when I can dial in timing, afrs, and cam position. Right now I dont have any cam gears and thinking about getting a J&S safeguard so I can safely run the most timing possible.
Just want to get some numbers for you guys for right now.
Oh and I got a video camera from a friend, so Ill get some up this week!

dyno dynamics for sure.
Here in CO it costs $85 for a base line and $100 per hour.

Went to West Bend Dyno Tuning last night and did some baseline runs on thier Mustang Dyno.
Got 147.4 HP @ 6135 rpm
and 136.3 tq @ 5237 rpm
I dont know how accurate the rpm values are since he was having trouble getting it to read correctly.
The power curve started to get flat around 6000rpm they guy at WBDT thinks its because the motor wasnt balanced.
Also, my low end torque isn't gone either, it looks like from the graph I had ~120 ftlbs @ ~3500rpm
I know ive heard that mustag dynos are a bit more accurate/stingy than a dyno dynamics or dyno jet. The guys last night said add ~10% for dynojet #'s.
I'll post the actual graph up soon, need to find a scanner.

Hell. I'm going to call BS on those numbers... and then say... Holy Jumping Jesus! Congrats! That's a ton of power on this motor!!! probably 30 whp more than where I am right now (given the likely difference between the Dastek and the Mustang), and I'm only down on you in terms of compression... is it the twiggies, you think?

EDIT: you know the great thing about where you are now? You're making peak hp very low compared to a full JDM set-up. The full JDM (from the time we dyno'd it... we're dynoing again when we get the thing wired up and reprogrammed) FSZE starts making peak at 6500-6800 rpm... to produces 147 whp at 6000 rpm is absolutely peachy... means you get great power without the additional stress of high revs (yet).

good stuff mate...you're about on par with me now...assuming my 147(odd) equates to yours... (mind you mine is at close to 7000rpm, so you have more torque)

Thanks guys, here is the proof. I have a mod list at work so I'll copy & paste that tomorrow if I get time. Like I said before I'm happy with the build but in hindsight I dont think it was worth it to open the motor up just for the 10.4 pistons. (LW owes me an 'I told you so'!)
I want to get some adjustable cam gears made up so i can find the best cam setting for this car. It looks like i was a bit rich near redline and I think the timing is still well on the safe side.
The graph is kind of hard to read. Tq on the left (line that looks like a frown), AFR on the right (the lowest line) Speed on the bottom (47-92mph) hp curve is the one that starts in the middle of the left and flattens at the top right. Did one pull in fourth and one in third. The pull in third is shown. My car couldn't make it to redline in fourth (made it to ~135mph and was speeding up very slowly from there so he stopped the pull) hp numbers were identical

yeah, heaps of timing to be gained on our motor. if my "listening" device is anything to go by, my mid 30's timing from 5000+ is WAY WAY WAY on the safe sidem, but i'm going to work on that more to get more accurate timing (aka finding knock more accurately)
I think you're motor has some serious potential jimmy....next port of call for my money would be revisiting that thunder shorty header....and going for something a little more useful to you. I doubt balance is affecting power....the engine would be shaking itself to s*** if it was a balance issue.....sounds like a flow issue to me.
Get yourself a set of custom pipes made up (4-1, merge collector), tuned length (dial them in for about 7000 to 7250 rpm), and you're likely to see more than a handful of extra ponies.
get some decent (correct) cam gears made up and dial the twiggies in for maximum power...then spin the motor to 7500 and see what you get.
no i dont think it was worth your while opening up your motor just for JDM pistons, but then again, JDM pistons are not that much higher compression for the australian spec motor - but probably worth while for the lower compression american motor...next time you get an itch to open the motor though, custom pistons (about 11.5:1), with a bigger, raised wrist pin, and SR20 rods modified to suit.
But good work mate. Can't wait to see what you squeeze out if it when you finish the tuning off and let it loose....take it to the drag strip damnit!
