Replace Windshield Question(s)

So a rock fell off of a @($* grain truck and hit my windshield. As soon as I saw the crack starting I knew the windshield was toast. So, being the shopper that I am, I thought I'd check the Safelite auto glass website to see what they would want to replace the windshield. OTD it would be just over $700.

The questions:

1) If I take it to the Mazda place (Nelson Mazda in Tulsa, OK) will they install a factory Mazda piece of glass or will they just take it to somewhere like safelite?

2) Some cars have specially engineered windshields that have films, etc that help with wind noise. Is my windshield one of those type of windshields?

3) If they will install a Mazda branded windshield, anyone know how much they are gonna charge me?

I believe the dealers actually go through places like safelite since they already have the molds for most makes of cars. $700 seems VERY expensive to me...when I had my protege I went through two windshields and the replacement fee was about $275...then again if anyone knew about those windshields knew they were horrible...Will your insurance not cover your windshield?

Yeah they sure will. But here's how:

If chipped and repairable, my insurance (Travelers) will repair the chip free of charge.

If cracked and thus not repairable (mine is cracked from the left A pillar to midway on the passenger side), I could pay my deductible and file a claim.

With the latter being the case, I'm just going to bypass making a clam and just pay out of pocket. I don't need to give my insurance co a reason to up my premiums... which have been very very reasonable with Travelers.

1-windshield comprehensive claim won't make your insurance premium go up. Have them repeatedly than that is another story. I'd file the claim to make your out of pocket expenses a little less.

I have safelite coming today to replace my CX-7 windshield (they'll come to your house in some areas). I got a chip about a month ago and it has now turned into a crack that has slowly spread from the base to nearly the top.

Geico is covering the whole thing... no deductible either.

I'll let ya know how it goes.

Thanks... will be watching for your results. (yippy)

Bad me... I never came back and updated!
Safelite did a fine job replacing the windshield. Was a snap. Of course I had to go back to the tinter and have the top 6" redone, but that's not their fault. I'm happy I had the coverage!

Same here... never updated. Had bob's auto glass service come to the house and replace the shield. They put a genuine Mazda windshield in the car & told me nobody else made glass for the car yet.

'Twas $550 installed... which was $200ish less than just about everywhere else.
