Twiggy Sticks Install, tuning and results thread

Well my update is ...pending

Tight clearance was created at cam cap.
Small amount removed from cap.
Likely caps were shuffled in a previous dis-assembly without proper reassembly (thanks)
This was also apparent from the screws also being out of numerical sequence.
Also need 2 more bolts to replace removed snapped ones.

I am growing concerned re: the kasman cam gears and the CPS.
Just read the other thread yesterday

The caps themselves are numbered, thus eliminating the possibility that they're installed in the wrong order.

Can someone PLEASE tell me the purpose of the Welch plugs at all.
I have yet to see any Legit and solid info for WTH these are for.

They index the cams to the gears. Without them, the gears could (and probably would) slip and come out of phase with the cams... A big problemo. Guys at y machine shop just made some of their own they said they do it all the time, they just use some dowel and cut to fit. You could do it yourself.

I am sorry..But what doe these plugs have to do with indexing the cams and them coming loose.
It just doesn't make sense to this guy.

What do you mean it makes no sense to you? Its what the notches in the cam gears go onto and it's what keeps the cam gear spinning with the cam... Have you never taken your cam gears off before?

Probably had your boyfriend do it... (bird) Here I go infecting yet another thread with our mindless banter hahahaha.

as far as i know they are oil plugs to keep oil from spewing out of the cam
aka freeze plugs

the dowl is indexing the cam gear
so the correct stick goes in the right side of the head

I think that is correct too

It's my understanding as well - the welch plugs keep oil in the cam and assist in lubing the cam journals (through very small holes).

the dowels are pins in the end of the cam to maintain it's position
I think there was some confusion about dowel function vs welch plug purpose.

When twilight posted pics (i think it was him WAYY back in the original FS thread, that's what I thought they were.)

Like I said..nobody has the Straight answer..So much has been said in the last 10 posts..you cant tell what is what..this is my whole point.

Pics and descrips would be nice..I am just trying to get a good grasp on this.

there is nothing to figure out

dowls stick out ....align cam gear

plugs go in ...keep oil in cam

done and done :)

Why are these not used in the OEM cams then..thats what I dont understand.

I'll pop off a shot of a stock cam tonight or tomorrow night (depending if I get called in for a shift tonight), but IIRC, there's a one way check valve in the form of a ball-bearing in the stockers in the area in question. The Twiggy cam manufacturers opted to use a welch plug ...

Just got home from work - here's the shot as promised:

Yep, it's the genuine JDM intake cam. The Twiggy cams use a welch plug in place of this ball. I also have in my possession the elusive JDM exhaust cam.
