MS3 Gas milage?

whats are the RPM in 6th gear at 65mph cruz??...

I commute on the freeway, at 65 (which is hard to do unless I follow the big trucks) I think im at 2800 ish or less. I normally cruise at 79 with traffic (SoCal ftw) and im right about 3000-3100.

Ya the manual says 14.5 gal, i guess you guys are saying this is wrong. I knida agree now, i was pretty emtpy last time and only putin 11.xxx gal or so.

Sorry, it's not 14.5. s***, I wish. It's actually 12.5. I let my computer get down to 1 mile left of fuel and I filled it up. I got 12.9 which is the most I have ever gotten in the car. I always drive on empty for a while before I fill up too.

If the max capacity was 12.5 gallons, you wouldn't be able to put 12.9 gallons into the tank...

Most I have put into the tank at once is 13.4 gallons, trip meter was on 0 for 20 or so miles, gauge was past E (couldn't find a station!).

I think all of the websites use the standard data from Mazda. I doubt they ever tested the capacity of the gas tanks in the cars.

Whoa, that's cutting it close :) 13.4 is the most I have ever heard of. Glad you didn't get stranded somewhere.

As for the 12.9 in a 12.5 tank, my last car was listed as having 14.5 and I put in almost 15 gallons before. It was an 03 VW GTi.

I get 365 miles to the tank before the yellow light comes on, then i start looking for a gas station.

Mind you this is all highway miles and ocasionnally getting on boost. Just
cant waist a whole tank without stepping on it .
I commute 50 miles a day. (25 miles each way).

The tank IS 14.5 gallons.

The "E" light comes on when there are ~3 gallons left (reserve).

This is the same with most modern cars. There's usually 2-3 gallons of fuel left when all guages and indicators indicate "empty."

crap! my milage sucks then. how the heck is the trip computer telling me that I am averaging around 22.1 when I only get around 280 on 14 gallon (that's only 20mpg)

Thats why I said never trust trip computers. I just filled my car up, with 165 miles on the trip odo and put 7.7 gallons in the car, divide the two thats roughly 21.5mpg. I drive 15miles round trip city a day, thats all that can be expected from the car.

NEW RESEARCH!
today driving home I set cruise at 70mph on a nice flat stretch of highway.

70mph @ 2750 rpm

but at that speed i think you would have to shift to 5th to go up a hill and keep good gas mileage.

LOL i also put cruise on 95 and my trip meter said 29mpg SWEEET
(dont worry i was still getting passed by pickups trucks and minivans gg Cali freeways!)

Pumped 13.475 gallons today - 288.8 miles driven. Computer read 24 mpg.

Don't ever rely on a trip computer - I think a lot are in here. That would certainly explain all of the 22+ mpg city driving claims. My computer is always off 3 - 4 mpg in the cars favor and I reset at each fill up.

Fooking RX8 made me anal about calculating my mileage with every fill up... must break habit.

I've found that if I drive this car moderately aggressive in mostly city driving I get around 18-21mpg (Actual mileage) not trip computer. Trip computer seems to be consistently off by + 3-4 MPG as the above poster indicated.

Ed, Yes, I do think that winter fuel was a factor, but for the first 18,000 miles (all before winter), I never got more than 30 mpg. Also, for the first 18,000, I was running with 50 lbs. pressure in the tires as opposed to 32 or so now. Also, I calculate my mileage on miles driven/fuel replaced (computer info is interesting but nothing more).

I can say that whatever the computer tells you is between 2.5 & 3 MPG higher than actual. I've noticed this to be true with most cars. I always reset it when I get gas & compare it to what I actually consumed next time I fill up. With a 50/50 mix of highway/city I can get about 23-25 MPG actual (26-28 computer) if I try to drive 'nicely'. I've had tanks where I've gotten 17 or 18 MPG (actual) & I've had tanks where I get 30 MPG (actual). The difference between 60 MPH & 80 MPH is huge in this car when it comes to MPG. The best way to figure out what you're actually getting at a certain speed is to turn on cruise control & riding on perfectly flat terrain, then subtract 2.5 from the "current cons" MPG #.

I've always calculated mileage with every fill up for any car I've had. If you wanna talk about anal/crazy, I have every gas receipt from my Integra which I put into a spread sheet and calculated what my gas mileage was year by year, season by season, and total from owing the car to notice driving trends. Also noticed changes in gas prices from $1.88 for premium 4 years ago to the $3.88 I paid yesterday for premium. I was unemployed when I made that spread sheet by the way...

My best gas mileage was coming back from Vegas, average speed was around 70-75 mph and my gas mileage on that tank was 31mpg.

My average tank, however is ~26mpg with mixed highway/city driving. Car has ~8500 miles on it and a BEGI intake.

Corvette Z06 more economical?!!!

OK, so my coworker was showing me his '08 Z06 with the 7-liter engine. He's getting ~20MPG in the city and 26 on the highway with that beast! I'll have to tell my wife we need a car with better fuel economy than the MS3 ;)

I guess it doesn't hurt to weigh 3100 lbs, but jeez - with a LS7 engine???!!!!

I wonder what insurance would be on a '08 Z06? MY guess is that's really really high. Car payments would more than double as well.
